I have a Makita DCS640120 Commercial Grade 20Inch 64cc and when i turn it on the chain automatically moves how do i fix it to where it will idle till i press the trigger?

Turn the idle speed screw CCW till the chain stops turning at idle, but the engine continues to run. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight. Remove the chain cover, bar, and chain. Spin the outer drum of the clutch to check the bearing which lies between the drum and internal components. If it doesn't spin freely, try oiling the drum bearing area and work it into the bearing. If no help, plan on replacing the clutch mechanism. Hope some of this helps!

Trying to assemble chain back onto bar and wheel but when I start saw the chain comes off. I feel like it is tight enough but without being too tight.

loosen clamp, back off adjustment fully, spin chain by hand[carefully] to make sure its running on bar and sprocket,,adjust tension up ,while rechecking chain alignment, then lift chain by hand at the top of the bar[the bar will also move up slightly] and adjust tension up till clearance between chain and bar is about 1/2 inch.dont let go the chain, while you lock up the clamps.then spin chain to recheck its on the sprocket properly.then try cutting wood. This procedure can apply to most chainsaws

Engine starts blade won't spin

The large black plastic bar sticking up is a kick back safety device. Pull it back toward the handle to make sure it has not been engaged. If it is engaged the chain will not move. If that is not the problem then the chain clutch is defective. I am assuming the chain is not too tight.

McMulloch EM250 motor spins but the chain does not move

your problem is a simple one. the chain is too tight. loosen the two nuts that hold the bar in place and use a flat blade screw driber to turn the tension screw a wee bit to loosen the chain just a little. finally spray some wd-40 or other lube on the bar and chain and you will be fine.

Saw is running, but chain is not moving

If you rev the engine and the chain does not spin, either the chain is jammed, or is adjusted to tightly on the bar, or the centrifugal clutch is malfunctioning. With the engine off and leather gloves on, see if the chain will move on the bar, you should be able to move the chain 4 or 5 inches. If you can spin it, the clutch is probably bad. If its stuck, take the housing off over the clutch and make sure the chain is seated on the sprocket and not jammed to the side. Inspect the chain on the bar, there should some slight play in the chain tension. Look for any links that dont flex. This happens to be cause I overtighten the chain to the bar.
