Self defrosting feature is not working. Check defrost thermostat, defrost heater, defrost timer for proper operation.

Until repair is made, defrost the unit and turn back on until it freezes up again. Check the ice block at rear of freezer. If the ice is confined to the area around the refrigeration line coming into the freezer it is low refrigerant level. If the block completely covers the evaporator it is a non working defrost mechanism.

SOURCE: fan oscillation

Probably damaged the fan blade. If plastic, it could be missing a blade or maybe cracked. If metal, probably bent. I would ttry to get an eyeball on it while it''s running to see just what's up. Fan motors are usually pretty durable and last quite awhile.Good Luck and hope this helps.

SOURCE: Hotpoint FFA71 fridge and freezer suddenly stopped working

Sounds as though the compressor has stopped working. It feeds both compartments with control from a printed circuit above the top door.Where all your red lights are ablaze! (This can be replaced by removing the 2 screws and "clicking" out the small panel) Check that the compressor is running at the bottom rear of the fridge/freezer before anything else.

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned warmer which makes REF. colder or vice versa.
Also this might be a common Defrost problem, Ice
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

Loud "clattering" noise from freezer area when refrigerator runs

There is a fan in the back of the freezer that runs when the compressor is running. It sounds like you have ice build up around the fan.
You could have one of these problems: (Sorted by most likely to least likely)
1) Auto Defrost timer, defrost bi-metal or defrost heater is defective - the unit will go into auto defrost about twice a day, if this fails you will have lots of ice built up around the cooling fins and sometimes on the fan. Pull the back off the inside of the freezer and check for ice build up around the cooling fins, there should be none or very little if its running normal.

2) Bad door gasket - if the freezer door is leaking warm moist air inside the freezer it could be condensing around the fan causing ice (you will also see ice build up on things inside your freezer too).

3) Plugged drain - the drain leads from the freezer down to the drain pain under the fridge. If this is plugged ice will build up on the bottom of the freezer and potentially around the fan.

Hotpoint refrigerator has power but not cooling

Hello there,
If your refrigerator is working perfectly fine but is not cooling. Check the compressor if it is running as well as the fan, then you check if the condenser coil is not clogged, then you check for ice build up at the back of the unit. If they are working and there is no ice build up, then it means the problem is from either the defrost thermostat, defrost heater the door switch or the defrost timer.
You will have to test and replace the faulty component. But if the test is carried out and the components seem to be in good condition, then it means, the refrigerator is out of gas and that simply means you will have to refill the gas tank.

Hotpoint (GE)CTX18GJB not cold enough. Just had serviced - tech replaced defrost timer and defrost terminator. The top located freezer gets cold and can hear the fan running - but still not cold enough...

Hello,

I agree with the tech. if the refriderator isn't frosting it isn't working, their is only 1fan and its in the freezer,The tech could have missed some frost build up that is blocking the air flow into the fresh food section,if he removed all the frost it could take up to 24 hours to get cold ,it should slowly geta bit colder throughout the day,if by tomorrow its still not working have the tech come back and check for frost build up on the vents for air flow into fresh food compartment.
To reiderate their is two types of refrigerators, one that you have to manually defrost and a automatic defrost type where the defrost system which is comprised of the defrost heater, timer&termination t-stat will automatically melt the frost
