This is what I read Mitra,

1) Asus P5KPL AM/PS motherboard.
This I understand....

2) Something about the Intel G31/G33 chipset driver
Hoping you aren't using the chipset driver, for the VGA driver...

3) O/S = Windows XP
This I understand....

4) Windoze shows driver as vgasave, and error code as 37.

5) Updated driver, uninstalled driver, and reinstalled driver.
This I understand.

Not from what I am reading. What a humble person, and a person who will truly go far in life........

People generally know about going into Device Manager, and updating, or rollover driver.
NOT many know about uninstalling, and reinstalling.

That would be to uninstall in Device Manager.
(Microsoft 'squawk box' comes up)
Then when you restart the computer, Windows re-installs the driver.

[How?
On the harddrive are Addresses. Windoze LOST the address to the driver, lol!
Winblows: "OH, here it is! 142nd Street, Apt. 11105 ]

The update/rollover thing hardly ever works.
Uninstall is the best of the three, but it seldom works either.

There is no mention of using a graphics card.
Therefore I will assume you are referring to the Integrated Graphics of the motherboard.

(Integrated Graphics is also known as OnBoard Graphics.
A term we do not seem to use anymore, but IMHO,... SHOULD.

There are 2 VGA files listed.
One of them is what you need.

There is version 6.14.10.5009, and version 6.14.10.4935

We can see version 6.14.10.5009 came out April, 24, 2009.
(2009.04.24)
Version 6.14.10.4935 cam out May 5, 2008.
(2008.05.19)

Logic would dictate use the newest version, because if there were any bugs in the older version (2008), they should have been worked out, for the newer version. (2009)

However sometimes a newer version does not work.
The older version is needed.

Okay,...............let's use the scientific method then.........
Flip a coin.

(NO, that isn't scientific, lol!)

Suggest download AND install the older version.
(Coin came up Tails..................................KIDDING!)

A) Under the subheading - Version 6.14.10.4935, and to the right of - Download from, click on the blue -> Global

A small window will come up -
Opening Intel_Graphics_V614104935_2KXP.zip

Make SURE there is a Green dot in the small circle, to the left of Save File.
IF not;
Left-click in the small empty circle to the left of Save File.
Now go below in the small window, and click on OK.

A small download window will come up.
Allow the file to download ALL the way, then DOUBLE-click right on the file name.

In the next window go to the far left, and click on -
Extract all files.

At the bottom of the next 3 small windows, click on -
Next, Next, and Finish.

[NOTE*
DO NOT change anything in the second small window.
Just click on Next, Next, and Finish; at the bottom of the 3 small windows ]

If you are not asked to restart your computer, do so.
Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Click on Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart.

[Note*
A Zip file is a Compressed file.
It is used to send large amounts of information more easily.
It needs to be uncompressed, or 'unzipped' ]

As for display is dim, and no sound; stated together........hmmm.

When THE driver is not installed for the VGA, Windows uses the default driver - VGASAVE.

So I will assume that installing THE driver needed, should cure your display problem.

Has NOTHING to do with Audio, though. (Sound)

Suggest go back to Asus driver download page, and download AND install; the audio driver.

There are FOUR audio drivers listed.
I leave which one to use up to you.
Perhaps research online, and see if you can find out what bugs were worked out, for the newer versions.
Then decide if one of the newer versions is a good choice, or just use the old version.

This could look confusing, so hopefully I state it plainly enough, that it isn't......

The old version is Version 5.10.0.5667/6.0.1.56
The newer versions are;
Version 5.10.5821/6.0.1.58, and Version 5.10.0.5904/V6.1.0.5904.
(Top file)

Version 5.10.0.5859/6.0.1.58, is for Windows XP 64-bit.
Not the Windows XP 32-bit version you have.

So the Audio (Sound) file you need, is one of the other three.

IMHO I would use the old version, but in reality it is up to you.

Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device.

In this case the device is the Audio chipset, and the Operating System is Windows XP.

One last thing.............

After you install the Audio driver........
If you do not have the Volume icon in your taskbar.
(Taskbar is at bottom of Windows desktop screen. The Time is in it, for one)

Click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices.
On this page click on Sounds and Audio Devices. (Bottom)

In the middle of the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window, that you are in now, go down to the blue - Device volume subheading.

Left-click in the empty square box, to the left of -
Place volume icon in the taskbar.
Now go below to the Right, and click on Apply.
Then go below to the Left, and click on OK.

How to update vgasave driver


Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "AcerSupport" (without the quotes). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download andinstall the drivers.

I have a lenovo n500 and had to reinstall windows vista now the display is in VgaSave mode how do i fix this please


You may need to download the video driver for you operating system and install it. You can ge the driver here: Lenovo. Scroll down the page to near the bottom VGA/Video drivers are there.
You also need to know if the operating system is 32 bit or 64 bit.
It should tell you in the Control Panel. Click the System icon to see info.

Download vgasave driver for gigabyte g31 motherboard


Check for driver at this link location: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/download-center.aspx?kw=g31 There are a lot of g31 models. Look at the sign at your motherboard and select the appropriate driver for you.

My laptop is not giving me display. i replaced the motherboard and lcd screen cable due to the motherboard and cable being damaged. i replaced with the appropriate models etc. the laptop runs fine...


Hello, Matt.

Sounds like a conflict with your VGA card driver.

From Safe Mode, go to Add/Remove programs and remove anything related to graphics. Go to Device Manager and remove/uninstall any listings for Graphics Adapter.

When you restart, install the drivers from the CD. If the drivers need to be "executed" as a program, cancel out of the driver install and run the drivers program when you get into Windows.

No your not.Go to microsoft web site or use the built in Windows Update on your computer.If you haven't downloaded the update tool it will ask you to install it.After it installs the update tool, run it.Pick the updates you need lnstall them some will require you to restart.Later check the automatic update feature to check for updates.Other updates will be from the manufacturer or your PC,check for their updates.Software from their sites.This is not hard.If I were you I would buy a general book on XP you can learn easy steps to keep your PC up to date and won't have to ask anyone (except FixYa.com) good luck

The problem is you don't have the display adapter driver installed (Video Card)

go to this site and enter the details for your computer download drivers
in your device manager do you have any with a yellow mark on them if so click on the small + which extends menu right click properties and uninstall any drivers. reboot go back to device manager or install hardware and install the driver you downloaded
they also may come with an install or setup file use this after removing old drivers
