Hello I have the described side by side refrigerator/freezer and there is a chattering noise on the freezer side that stops when I open the freezer door but resumes when I close it was wondering if I 've possibly got a defrost timer going bad but the chattering continues as long as the freezer door is closed. Thanks

Well I opened the freezer door checked the gasket, my model does not have any type of filter reset so I raised and lowered the ice maker arm closed the door and it stopped, now waiting on compressor to start up and operate.

Something is in the fan, behind all the shelves and some cover panels. It could be ice building up. Put all the frozen stuff in a cooler and take all the trays out and find the cover over the fan. If it is all frozen up, you may have the thermostat set too low. You will have to turn it off and defrost it if you see a lot of ice. A hair dryer will speed things up.
The fan usually stops when the door is open....

YES YOU GOT IT,IT'S THE BOARD BECAUSE EVERYTHING ELSE CHECKED OUT GOOD,BOTH FANS,HEATING ELEMENT,DEFROST THERMOSTAT,THE ONLY OTHER THING I WOULD DO IS TURN THE THERMOSTAT OFF IN THE FRIG.TO SEE IF THE COMPRESSOR AND FANS TURN OFF,WAIT 3 MINUTES AND TURN IT BACK ON, IF THAT CHECKS OUT THEN IT HAS TO BE THE DEFROST TIMER,LET ME KNOW-MIKE

SOURCE: Amana 22 side-by-side refrigerator, freezer door opens slightly

There are three possibilities to this problem:

1. Door seal which should be magnetic is faulty.
2. Ice maker caddy (container) has not socketed properly into ice maker rear drive tang.
3. Door stay closed plastic hing pieces are damaged. These are tapered pieces that fit in hinge area that allow door weight to help close and hold door. Some are black in color and some are white. As far as I know they are interchangeable.

SOURCE: freezer door wont seal and stay closed

Your pushing air from the fridge part over to the freezer door when you clos it,the only thing i can suggest is make sure that the seal (which is magnetic) is clean and not falling apart, inspect it all around the door, and when closing the door i would close it gently.

Hope this helped.Let me know by rating me or

Samsung refrigerator loud noise

if the fan is still running when you open the door , the I would be leaving that idea as a last resort
try this
get 2 taper door chocks and put one either side at the back of the fridge
push the cabinet sideways and slip one chock in a bit then do the other side
many noises are from the bottom plate that the compressor is mounted on from tapping on the floor and lifting it a bit stops the noise
the same as when you open the door the pressure on that plate is removed and so it stops hitting the floor

How do a fix a refrigerator which makes a clicking noise when light in freezer is off? If I open the freezer door it stops. If the door is open and I depress the light switch, it starts the noise aga

That's a weird one. It sounds like the switch operates a relay that cuts off power, and the relay is "chattering." If so, the only way to stop it is to replace the relay. Call a technician if you're not comfortable getting into the inner workings of your freezer yourself.

The fridge light flickers and makes a strange knocking noise when screwed in. I put in a new light hoping that would help, but it didn't work. The mechanism which displays the freezer and fridge setting...

I suspect the main control down by the compressor may be faulty. Without a model number I can't give you specific information, but these controls have a pretty high failure rate. The "knocking" you describe is likely the relay(s) chattering. The board controls every function on the refrigerator, including the turning on of the lights. Have someone screw the bulb in while you are behind the refrig listening down by the compressor area. The control is mounted to the LH side of the compressor in a plastic case.

The unit is making a short cranking noise.

Sounds like the freezer fan motor to me.
Open the freezer door.
Push in and hold the light switch on the door and listen for the noise.
It will probably be at the back of the freezer where the fan motor is located.
Could be a motor going bad or a ice buldup around rge motor blades.

My LG ice maker fan is making a really loud noise right after the water stops going in

Hello, Self-defrosting refrigerators use a circulating fan to move air through the freezer and refrigerator compartment. This fan runs when ever the unit is cooling. The fan is located in the freezer, as follows:
  • If the freezer is on top, the fan is on the back wall, near the top or bottom, in the center of the freezer.
  • If the freezer is on the bottom, the fan is on the back wall, near the top of the freezer.
  • If the freezer is on the left, the fan is on the back wall, half way up or near the top.
Overtime the fan may become noisy, usually making a chirping or squealing sound, though it may make a loud groaning noise instead.
To find out if the fan is causing the noise, just open the freezer door and push in any fan/light switches, if the noise is louder when the door is open, the evaporator fan motor is the cause. You can lubricate or repair this motor. You must replace it.
There are three components on the outside back of the refrigerator that may become noisy: the compressor, the condenser fan motor(if self-defrosting), or the defrost timer (if self-defrosting).
Thanks
