Re: Monator has no signal

Plugging into the laptop as an alternative monitor needs you to set the Laptop to divert the signal to the external monitor.
As you did not mention the laptop I cannot go further  except to suggest you read the manual with regard this situation.
On some models of laptop this function is actuated  by pressing a certain key- which may have for example a BLUE symbol on  in the front edge whilst pressing another key in the region of the space bar with a blue symbol on it.
Then manual will tell all

yYou dont unless you have a dedicated tuner that outputs to DB9 (VGA plug) or HDMI. Older flate screens dont Do HDMI natively so you would have to get a stand alone tuner like this:

I bought a Gateway FPD1830 monator from a friend. What does it need other than a power cord to hook to a dell computer?

VGA or DVI cable, this cable has approx 1" x 1/2 inch blue or white ends and should connect both to the monitor and to the computer to transmit the video signal between the two.

I have a new Dell Studio 540 computer and I'd like to hook it up to my Gateway EV910 monitor. I connected everything correctly. The monitor has power, turns on to the monitor self test screen where it...

You dont need to install a driver for the monitor. The power save mode message appears when the monitor is not able to get a signal from the computer. Make sure the the vga/blue cable is securely plugged to the back of the pc.

note: Inspect the back of your studio. You may have two blue ports where you can connect the monitor, if you do, connect the monitor to the one at the bottom half of the computer.

Screen completely white

One gets to open it up and find out where the signal from the computer is lay aside. Hunt up the model number on the inside of the monitor (the ODM part numbers) for the service manuals if you can use them. Otherwise you can call Gateway or look for a shop (sometimes even buy repair insurance coverage with the thing in that nonfunctional state.)
