Try this if A/T trani: When the car starts to act up put it in neutral, if it continues to act the same then its not your transmission. Check your plugs specifically for the color of their tips. Black means excessive fuel consumption, white means a bad valve or blown head, light brown is normal. If those are fine buy a set of spark wires and replace the ones on your car currently. Keep the box and receipt so you can return them if that doesn't fix the issue. Check your altinater for its charging capacity, over 14 and its over charging and wrecking your battery, under and it's not recharging the battery causing you to lose all power eventually. If not of that works, there's a short somewhere and you need a mecanic electrician to find it.

SOURCE: buick lesabre nightmare

Need to get a scan tool and look at the data stream while it is running for alot more info. Also any trouble codes.Sounds like initially, the engine isn't getting any fuel.I would have a pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail on the engine,so i could monitor the fuel pressure while all this is going on.Items to look at on the data stream would be timing, what timing is the PCM commanding for the engine. Also, have you checked for continuos power feed to the coils during this no start condition, and fire at the plugs while cranking. You could possibly still have spark, but maybe it is extremely weak?I have seen bad ignition switches cause weird problems before too. Many things power up through the ignition switch, just a thought.Have also seen bad PCM's cause strange problems..38 volts is a little on the low side for GM.Usually see those at,at least .50 and up,and rise steadily while pressing the throttle,up to just under 5.0 volts.Potentiometer with 5 volt supply.Vacuum leak can be checked with engine running at a steady idle speed, spray brake cleaner all around the intake manifold and listen for engine speed change.

SOURCE: truck starts, dies. truck runs good some days, bad the next

I had the same problem with My 1990 F150 300 6cylinder 4x4.....I cahnged all the same things you did, finally I sprayed a can of Gumout through the throttle body and it worked and ran great. Now I add fuel injector cleaner to the gas and a regular clean with the gumout and the problem has'nt come back. Good Luck to you and hope it works!

SOURCE: 97 grand prix gtp starts then immediatly dies

If you have a GTP these engines use a hi output fuel pump. they use a fuel pump resistor located under the battery tray (look up from under the car) This resistor lowers the voltage to the fuel fump when not in boost mode. because of its locatoin it is prone to corrosion. if you bypass the wires and the engine starts and stays running replace the resistor

My 1995 jimmy start die over and over

Josh, same problem with my suburban, very frustrating. Two issues to check.
Underneath your distributor cap and ECM module there is the pickup coil. The reluctor is most likely corroded really bad. It is about one hour work but you would be surprised how dirty and corroded that area gets. The reluctor is a fixed part of the distributor shaft and the little nubs break magnetic field which is
processed by your onboard computer. If the pulses are not correct the computer is telling your TBI injectors to spray which will flood out your engine. Ten of fifteen minutes later, it will start up again and then die shortly after. Have a new pick up coil on hand too ($10.00) since your in there. My reluctor looked like it was in Vavy Jones locker it was so crusty. Second- the fuel relay. Nororious for developing little cracks on the mini circuit breaker which get wider as voltage and amps increase due to resistance (dirt, moisture). The relay will shut off the fuel pump if the oil pressure signal gets cut, and if your breaker/circuit board is
bad the board heats up and trips off your fuel. When the board cools off in ten or fifteen minutes, starts up and then dies when engine gets warm/hot. It really had me stumped for quite some time. Hope ths cuts your wrench time down considerably.

My car anti-theft seems to have kicked in and I can't get it to start. What do I do next?

hi, you can perform the reset with just your key and a battery charger to see if this will allow for restart. what you do is, hook up a battery charger to start with, low amperage setting like 15 amp, or maybe 2 amp, and leave it on the battery, you will be leaving the key on for up to an hour and the battery must not die during this time. turn the key on and try to start once for about 1-2 seconds, then let go and let key rest in run position for fifteen minutes at minimum. then turn off the key, wait ten seconds, and turn on again to run position only, leave on for another fifiteen minutes, then again, turn off for ten seconds, turn back on to run position for fifteen minutes. after this time, turn the key off, wait ten seconds, and try to start the car. if it starts, check to see if the check engine light is illuminated, or the security light is on, if one or the other is on, take to a shop and have codes checked and diagnosed, if no lights on, you should be able to drive on. if the vehicle does not start after three reset key cycles, try the process one more time. it may have been interupted somehow. if you try twice and still no start, you have to have diagnosed further, maybe in the key, maybe in the lock cylinder, maybe in the theft module.

Changed the battery, the car will start but dies immediately and will not idle. Will keep running as long as you are pressing on the gas but again dies as soon as you let of the gas.

Sounds like it needs to go through a drive cycle. After the computer has been deprived of power for ten or fifteen minutes, it will need to relearn the paramiters of the electronics for the engine. Take it on a 10-15 mile drive with out stops (the high way) at about 55-65 mph and it should be ok. If not you may other problems.

Yesterday in 90 degree weather after my car runs for a couple hour and gets hot it wants to shut down it makes a noise like it is not getting any power. After you let it set for about 20 minutes it allowed...

Lets start with the easy first and replace the fuel filter. One the fuel filter has been replaced and the problem persist, we can go to the next step and check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. But for now it's most likely the fuel filter has come to the end if it's life, they should be replaced every 30,000 miles or once a year which ever comes first. Good luck and keep me posted. You can pick up the fuel filter st Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done and Will also have the quick fuel line release wrench for lone or purchase.
