I have a servowarm Boiler Elite 80 and working fine until yesterday. Just seems to cut out and even after re-igniting it, cuts out after about 5-10 mins. I recognise this is an ancient boiler, but is there...

A boiler is a water heater? Sound to me like a thermostat problem and these are often obtained at W. W. Grainger at a price that is much less than if you call a service man in and he will just make some checks and change the thermostat.
The hard part is finding out which one you need.

remove radiator and flush through, knocking botton of radiator on to a heavy block of wood releases part blockage in radiator should this fal replace radiator remember to flush out rad/valves when you have radiator off best of luck

Heating

you need to bleed your radiators - air has built up at top of radiators and water cannot flow- there will be a cover at end of radiator on one end or the other- very carefully turn venting cap until air comes out it will change to water and stop- repeat at all radiators- be sure you are turning right part of vent and be gentle - if it feels like you need Hercules strength -you are turning wrong part.At the end of this go down and verify boiler pressure of 15 psi

How to re pressurisecentral heating system

Hi tiger650,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your problem is: The Alpha SY24 boiler has stopped working. The pressure gauge has dropped, you need to know how to re pressurise the system once the radiators have been bled

Every hydronic heating system is required to have a presure regulator. Most guys call it a feeder valve. Every one I've installed or worked on had one. It's job is to keep the water pressure constant by adding water when you release some air without over filling the system. Sounds like it's not working. Some types can be serviced, others cannont so you may have to replace it. If you're not sure what to do it might be prudent to check the Repair Directory for a repairman.
