Mashing it works best. the texture goes weird if they are frozen whole. just put the mash into a sealed container of sorts and it works fine to add to recipes later. should last about 3-5months depending on your freezer temperature and how ripe the avocado was to begin with

Can I freeze avocados in my home freezer?

Though Fresh Hass Avocados are preferred for their taste and versatility, with the proper preparation, pureed avocados can be frozen and used in guacamole dips, dressings and spread on sandwiches.

Whole, cut, diced or mashed avocados do not have as desirable of a result when frozen. Guacamole can often contain other ingredients that do not freeze well so we do not recommend freezing guacamole.

Freezing avocados

You can freeze avocados, but not whole, of course. The best way is to peel them, puree them, pre-mix them with any of the following: lemon(keeps it from oxidizing), minced roasted red peppers etc.... Many recipes are available depending on what you want to use them for.
Make sure you gradually defrost them(in the fridge) for a few hours before you use them. Good eating!

If I combine the avocado with basil etc. to make pesto sauce, can I freeze it in freezer bags to use later?

short answer. yes.
becareful with mixing in an other type of oils or lemon juices etc. as these have different freezing properties and will make the product rehydrate with a lumpy texture. straight Avo with basil blended and popped into a freezer in a sealed container should work no problems. storage for up to 3-5months depending on freezer temps and how ripe the avocado was to begin with.
