Question about HP Amethyst motherboard MSI MS-7184 Socket 939 Athlon 64 X2, Sempron

MSI MS-7184 keyboard usb and ps 2

The motherboard is a MSI MS-7184 in a emachine model t6524 and what is happening is when you turn on the computer, it starts and the lights on the keyboard light up and shut off, then it brings you to the first screen on start up and in that screen it gives you two options f2 for bios settings and f10 for boot menu... At that screen everything stops and nothing works.. you cant select either menu and I have used the standard plug and usb keyboard thinking it was the keyboard at first... I get nothing and nothing works I try even an usb keyboar but with the same result .. Any ideas?

Sounds like your processor might be heating up too fast. I would take the computer apart, clean it removing all dust from the fans, check to see if the fan is actually spinning and check to make there the silicon glue has not dried up. It could also be that your power supply isnt supplying enough power but if you haven't added any devices that wouldn't be the issue.

SOURCE: My HP dv5000 laptop has AMI BIOS beep code - 4 beeps

It sounds like either RAM or VIDEO problem to me. (I can't remember the specific beep sequence for AMI bios errors).

Hard to diagnose in Laptops.... if it was a desktop you can just start swapping out the RAM DIMMS..... are you techo enough to check whether you have 1 or 2 RAM cards installed? If 2 then run it with each card in turn to see if it boots (indicating 1 faulty RAM stick). If only 1 then try running MEMTEST on it to see if any errors. (I like HIRENS if you have it... I think it usually has latest MEMTEST on it).

If your cards all pass then its very likely a video problem. If its onboard video with no expansion slot (likely in a laptop) then you may be buggered.

Let me know if you need a hand doing any of the above.

SOURCE: laptop hp nx6320 keyboard f2 key is only working.

Have you tried "Delete" to enter the "Bios Settings"? If not this must be the shortcut for your laptop, since most compaqs' Bios settings are accessed with "del" key. Actually for Hp compaq laptops, F1, F2, F10 and Delete keys are the shortcuts. (varies with series/models).
If this doesn't help, try Fn+F1, Fn+F2, Fn+F10 etc..

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi,

Judging from the symptoms you describe I suspect that your graphics card is faulty. Did you buy the card new? If so, I would suggest returning it & asking the store to test it for you.
If it is determined that the card is not faulty, reply to this post & I will try to help you further.

Best wishes,

We have an emachine w3400 and need and new video card but don't know if it is PCI standard or PCI express how do i find out?

The eMachines W3400 desktop computer has an MSI MS-7145 motherboard.
(MSI = Micro Star International, Inc)

This is the MSI MS-7145 motherboard,

http://www.e4allupgraders.info/dir1/motherboards/socket754/msi7145.shtml

The MSI MS-7145 motherboard, has one PCI Express x16 expansion slot, which is used for a graphics card.

Viewing the bottom left of the photo, you will see three white PCI slots.

Right above them is a longer white slot.
This is a PCI Express x16, expansion slot.

Scrolling down to the subheading - Expansion Slots,
You will see - One PCI Express 16x slot, listed.

Should you require information in installing a PCI Express graphics card, or information on which PCI Express graphics card may fit your needs, state so in a Comment.

System will not power on.

Hi Robert,

Have you checked to see that there is no cabling of any sort in your machine that may be brushing with the side panel when it is closed? I'm thinking maybe a GRND pin from either the front panel connectors or a USB connector but this is only a guess. I am unsure why a panel could stop it turning on! Let me know if its resolved! :o)
