SOURCE: Carrier XHD183D Through-the-Wall Heater/AC runs constantly

YOU COULD EITHER HAVE A THERMOSTAT PROBLEM OR FAN CONTROL PROBLEM.TURN THE POWER OFF AT THE FURNACE AND TAKE THE THERMOSTAT OFF THE WALL.MAKE SURE YOU MARK THE WIRES SO YOU KNOW HOW TO HOOK IT BACK UP AGAIN.RESTORE POWER TO THE FURNACE.TOUCH THE WIRES THAT WERE HOOKED TO THE R & G TERMINALS ON THE T-STAT TOGETHER AND HOLD THEM THERE.OBSERVE THE OPERATION. WHEN YOU TAKE THEM APART DOES THE BLOWER STOP?TRY IT A FEW TIMES. IF IT CONTINUES TO START AND STOP YOU GOT A BAD T-STAT.JEFF

SOURCE: Carrier Furnace wouldn't light, fan was running all the time.

Most furnaces have a photo cell if it gets dirty the photo cell does not see a flame so it trips the reset button on flame failure.

Remove all power from the furnace, it is likely the brain in the furnace is need of being reset, from the battery replacement, why did you change the battery, was there an indicator telling you to change it?

Many times just removing all the power to the furnace will do the trick with a reset, if not let me know and we will go from there, but it sounds like the main brain is confused or bad, more likely confused, so try the power removed first.

Than let me know wbwill@sbcglobal.net

How do I light pilot light?

There should not be a pilot on a direct vent furnace. When you turn up the thermostat for heat the 1st thing to happen is a venter motor should start, it should vent for approximately 45 seconds, the air switch will verify a vacuum in the burner box, then a spark igniter should start clicking to start the pilot, then the flame rod will verify the pilot, the igniter will stop clicking, and the main burner will ignite and remain on until the thermostat has satisfied the set point. These guideline steps must be satisfied before the controller advances to the next step. The 1st step is the venter motor running, sometimes the motor will stick over the summer months, spin it manually to unstick it. PS, nothing runs if the fan door cover is open, as that shuts down the power to the whole furnace.

Have a carrier furnace model 58DHC095.it go thru its normal cycle for heat but the fan wont come on until the cycle end and furnace over heats. the fan works on all speeds and I have replaced the cont

There has to be a mechanical thermostat and it is sticking or other wise defective. I don't think that the control board is defective because it finally does turn the fan on. However the mechanical thermostat is there to prevent the fire box temperature from getting too high before the fan starts, but there must also be a over heat thermo disc that will shut the fire off when the fire box gets too high.

Boiler lights and runs Ok when first switched on, when it goes to reignite, it just keeps clicking (sparking) Pilot lights but boiler will not fire up.

This isn't very helpful at present.
What's the make and model of boiler?
Do you mean after the first (successful) ignition subsequent ignition attempts fail?
What happens if you turn the electrical power to the boiler OFF, then back ON ?

I need to suppress the back voltage supplying my gas fired boiler

Have you thought about putting a diode in the input line ? or something similar never heard of this problem before and i would suggest that you consult a full time installer as they will have encounted this before and know what to do ,forget the diode thing i would expect that the wiring is wrong somehow and the supply is permant to the heater and the switch completes the circuit where i think the power shold go to the switch first then the thermostat and from their into the heater ignition system and yoyurs isnt in this order

I have a boiler system that was turned off at the thermostat for about 5 min. when turned back on it never clicked on again it has a new honey well aquastat relay, new pilot and prob only three months old....

Take off the thermostat and jump the red and white wires together. The boiler should fire up. If not, you will need to check if the boiler has power to the control. It could be a fuse that burnt.

Burnham Boiler, no constant ignition.

Is there a pressure switch you can jump to see if it is defective? Is the inducer fan blowing out exhaust? You could also have a dirty pilot.
