1- Press and hold the power button on your computer box/case/tower until it shuts down. 2- keep tap/click on "F8" botton while turning you computer on. 3- A black option with some text on it should appear 3- choose Safe Mode 4- go to "My Computer" and right Click on "C" drive and choose Properties 5- go to "Tools" then click "Check Now" button in the "Error Checking" box 6- tick "Automatic ..." then click "Start" 7- Click Shadule and restart your computer. 8- Do not click any thing utill teh utility checks your system If you still have the same problem then it means that you have a virus Download AVG Antivirus if you dont have antivirus program. Now restart your computer and do the step 2-3 and run your antivirus program to search for all "files and folder". Link to download AVG Antivirus:

This is the start of a failing hard drive. If you can boot up and retrieve all your important data off the drive ASAP.
You can try running a check disk on the drive but 9 times out of 10 it means it is going to die.
To run checkdisk right click on the drive then go to properties and then advanced and the option is there.

If my answer helped you today please give four thumbs up as thanks!

Hello, While trying to boot up, I received the message, "disk read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+del". The same message appears after I press ctrl+alt+del. What can I do to resolve the issue? Thank...

This is called a disk error which generally means your disk has failed. You need to get your data off it if it is not backed up. You will have to replace the disk.
A local computer shop might, just might, be able to install it into a second computer and read the data. The more you fuss with it the lower your chances of getting any data off it.
If this answers your question, I'd appreciate 4 thumbs. I do this for fun and do not get paid.

You can try pressing f4 at startup screen and seeing if it gives you the advanced option to factory restore, which would be located on hard drive.

You can call HP (compaq) and ask them to ship you the restore disks, I think they charge shipping only for this option.

I have a optilex 170l dell computer i replaced the hard disk and now i gives me a disk read error occured press ctrl+alt+del to restart

Press ctrl+alt+del to restart is just an instruction. Did you do it?
What happened? Was it read? Tell us more. Send your e-mail for
us to give you our feedback.
By the way, assuming that it did not work, Your hard disk must be
configured to your PC, by running a software driver for your new hard
disk. You can download it from the internet by running search " hard
disk driver". Just specify the brand.
