  • First check the basics. Look down in the bobbin area and clean out any lint, fluff, thread, etc. Make sure it has nothing to do with the needle hitting the plate or the bobbin area. If it not a thread jam it is likely that your machine needs to be oiled. I own this model and left it in storage for the summer and it seized up like a brick. Taking it to a repair shop will run you the cost of the machine ($50-100) so it is NOT worth it and you really have nothing to lose by opening it up to tinker, which is what I did.
  • Option #1 (Less invasive) The first thing you can try is undoing the bottom plate, (4 small screws) it's just a largish white rectangle, remove the plate and there are 3 small bolts on a metal shaft that can be loosened to allow it to turn more easily. NOTE: There is a very handy youtube video on exactly how to do this. You'll need very small allen wrench (about 3/32 give or take). According to the comments, this seemed to help a lot of people.
  • Option #1 did not, however, solve my machine's problem. I had to take off the whole back plastic/resin casing. Don't freak out. It's just a few screws.
  • Option #2. First unplug the machine. Remove everything in the bobbin area (remember how it looked, take pictures if you need to) Now remove the back half of the outside casing. NOTE: You DO NOT have to remove the screws on the needle plate (flathead screws) OR the screw on the white bobbin winder thing on top (also a flathead screw) If you mess up and DO remove the bobbin winder thing, you will likely release a little nut into the interior of the machine. shake it out, and put it back where it belongs. Check to see if your belt is in place and not broken, and neither are your plastic gears stripped or broken. If they are, your problem goes beyond lubrication. If they are good, then you must oil your machine with some SEWING machine oil. ($2-4 at your local shop) Do not skimp and use WD-40.
  • Oil everywhere metal touches metal with a drop or two of oil. After every place you oil, check the wheel. Does it move? My trouble area ended up being the darker metal spoon looking shaft right in the middle. Keep going til your wheel moves freely. I had to oil about 15 places before I found my problem area. Don't forget to try places underneath (above that baseplate you removed earlier.) Replace everything. Then pat yourself on the back for fixing a machine for $4 and 30 minutes of fiddling.

  • Comment if you need clarification on my instructions. I cannot provide any info on service manuals, other sewing machine issues, or answer to what could be your problem if these 2 solutions didn't work. Remember you have nothing to lose by fiddling with a machine that is already a brick. EXCEPT if you don't unplug it. Please unplug it before you fiddle.

Thread jam, thread wrapped around handwheel shaft, machine in need of lubrication beyond what the user manual tells you, jammed gear. Time to consider taking it in for the annual COA (clean/oil/adjust) (aka sewing machine tuneup) $50-100. May be easier to replace the machine with a better one. I need a repaire manual for a singer simple 2263 sewing machine

This site might have what you need. Repair manuals can be very hard to find. I don't know that all the links on this site are still good but it is one of the only places I've even seen repair manuals for Singer machines listed. Best of luck.

Where to oil my singer 2263 ?

The 2263 only needs oil on the hook race (below the bobbin case). The complete cleaning procedure for this area is, with the needle fully up, remove the bobbin case and rotate the arms that hold the hook outwards. Remove the hook cover and the hook. Wipe the area under the hook cover and hook with a soft cloth. Put 1-2 drops of sewing machine oil just to the right of the center of this area. Rotate the hand wheel until the hook race is on the left side of the bobbin area. Then replace the hook and hook cover. Snap the arms back towards the center and insert the bobbin in the bobbin case.

With the bobbin out and the needle up, you should also unscrew the faceplate and wipe the feed dogs with your machine brush. (For best results, clean this before you oil. If you do not do this first, you may brush lint and bits of thread into the hook race and risk jamming this part.)

For pictures, see http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1213_oiling-2263.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Singer 2263 instruction manual does not show where to lubricate or how to adjust the hook which keep jamming

First make sure that the needle is fully up. Then you need to open the hinged front cover and unscrew the needle plate screws. Remove the bobbin. Brush out any lint now. Remove the bobbin case. Then snap the hook retaining arms outwards. Remove the hook cover and hook. Put no more than 2 drops of sewing machine oil on the the case (center right hand side). Then turn the hand wheel until the hook race is in the left position. Replace the hook and then the hook cover. Snap the hook retaining arms back into position. Replace the bobbin case and bobbin. Then replace the stitch plate.

Test the machine on a piece of waste fabric. If the hook keeps jamming, take the machine in for maintenance. The parts that may need to be replaced are the race or the shuttle hook. However without seeing the unit I do not know if there is not another problem. Some parts for the 2263 are available here: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/singer-2263-sewing-machine-parts.aspx .

Singer has a second manual available with the oiling instructions for the 2263 here: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1213_oiling-2263.pdf . See the diagrams on this page for where things line up. The rest of the instruction manual is also online here: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1180_2263%28eng_spa_fre%29.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Manual 2263 sewing machine free

You can download this manual from the Singer website, link is http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals, type in your manual number only and click search, wait a bit for the screen to build and you'll see a red box with "Free download", click on this and again wait a while as the file is large. It will open as a PDF file, save to your PC and you can then print the document at your leisure and perhaps get it bound in hard covers to keep the manual close at hand.

My machine started making noise and the handwheel became hard to turn. The hand wheel stopped turing completely. can I fix this myself or does it have to be repaired professionally?

Take the bobbin case out completely to begin witgh and check for any jammed thread, see if you can turn the balance wheel once the bobbin case is out, if you have a front load bobbin take the raceway out as well, if it still does not move you have a problem which will need shop attention
