The sony cameras are very picky on memory cards. They only work with the some types memory stick duo. But if the card already did work in your camera, you should check the contacts on both the memory stick and in the camera. You also need to check if you did not try to put it in the wrong way around. It should not be possible to reverse the memory stick, but if you don;t know your own strength damage on the memory stick and camera can be done.
Please if possible try to read the memory stick in the card reader on your PC. and look if you did not damage the contacts on the stick and in the camera.
Not sure why you are saying it's not the memory card or is it because you are working on the camera internal memory? If so the camera internal memory still needs to be formatted or initialized to properly work with the camera. I'm going to include two diagrams on a memory card that your camera will use first is the Card Lock. This is an actual lock on the side of the memory card and if in the incorrect orientation will prevent formatting all new card must be formatted to the camera they are being used in. You can't format the card in the computer and expect it to work in the camera it won't happen. You can't format the card in one camera and place it in another even the same make and model and expect to work. Here is the first picture/diagram of the card lock
The second diagram is right out of your owners manual showing how to format/initialize your memory card
Format card was taken from page 89 of your manual Have fun with your camera
The reason there is an error message on your memory card is because the memory card might have been damaged or probably not inserted properly.
To find out if the memory card is damaged, try to use the memory card in other devices that supports the memory card to see if it works. If it works on other devices, then the problem if from the card reader that is in the camera, and if it does not work, then the memory card is faulty. And the only solution is to replace the memory card.
To test the slot in the camera, try a tested okay memory card on it, if it does not work then the slot is faulty and to solve this problem, i will strongly advice you take the camera to a camera repair guy to clean the slot for you.
