Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

Stopped working U61 came on. This unit has found an error during recording or playback without an inserted disc. The unit proceeds with recovery procedure. The procedure restores thenormal operating mode. The unit is not defect. Please wait untill message goes off. Screen says SELF CHECK DID NOT COMPLETE1 PRESS ENTER THE UNIT OPENS THE DISC TRAYAND TURNS TO STANDBY. 2PRESS POWER TO RESTART. I presume power is the standby _off button. It does not say power in any part of diagram. I followed instructions and allways ended up showing goodbye then tray comes out again. Press tray in again. It goes in, again it says U61.

You have a jammed tray button, its really easy to fix, just take it down to a local dvd repair guy. I am one! and I quote a problem like this as about $15-20 and about 30min of your time :) good luck! p.s. if he/she charges more just take it to someone else!!!

I load up my Panasonic DVD recorder and it has built in freeview as well. Every time i load up my box it comes with up with U61 error and the machine makes a funny noise while trying to load the DVD drive...

The unit is carrying out the recovery process without a disc in the tray. The unit detected an error while recording or playing without a disc in the tray. The recovery process restores the unit to normal operation. Have the unit power cord unplug for about 5 minutes, then reconnect. If issue still exist have unit service.

DVD player/ recorder problems... PLEASE HELP!!!

I have now had two Panasonic recorders 3 years apart and both have gone down with this same fault.

It's a shame as they are a fantastic recorder, I would have thought Panasonic would have put this right by now. It now 5 years on since I bought my first one and it sounds as if they still have the same fault.

Why the hell can't they just fit a standard computer dvd drive that’s cheap to replace, and not this abortion they fit.

I was looking on E-bay for Panasonic recorders that where faulty and found around twenty.

"DVD drive faulty"

I’m now looking for a new one but don’t know what to do as I have a ton of discs that need to be finalized, may just forget about them and keep clear of Panasonic in future.

Model No'DMR-ES15 - U61problem

I get this message occasionally on my Panasonic DMR-ES15. It's actually a really simple fix. It occurs when there is a corruption in the disc which causes the recording mechanism to malfunction. There is a separate error message for this, however it is usually not detected until it's too late. When the recorder asks you to carry out the recovery process, do it. When the disc ejects, make sure you take the disc out that was in there when it occured and throw it will keep happening because the disc is permanently corrupted. However, do not close the tray without a disc or the self-check will fail. Instead pop in a disc of the same format that the error occured in (if it was DVD+RW then put in a DVD+RW). It resolves the problem every time on the first try. (It only happened two times in a year and a half for me). As the manual says the unit is "NOT BROKEN".
