i've connected panasonic DMR-ES20 dvd recorder to time warner sci/atlanta explorer 8300 HDC cable box. it records, but about 1:30 to 2:00 into recording, i get message on screen: "your tv does not allow display of this program through the dvi input source. please chose another tv input source." the cable box is connected to dvd recorder thru s-video (and i've tried composite video [yellow rca cable])- same error message when using both.. cable box to tv is hdmi cable, and dvd recorder to tv is component (rgb) cables. why is it doing this, and -short of disconnecting hdmi/component cables- is there anything i can do to resolve this? Thanks!
Everything I've read on the web says cable box to tv connection must also use component (rgb) cables. The error is coming from the cable box (STB). All the Scientific Atlanta (SA) cable boxes seem have this Digital Rights Management (DRM) bug and the only way to be totally rid of the error is to replace the digital connection from box to the TV with an analog connection.
Very true millermoto. The box can power all the analog outputs, or just the HDMI port. If the HDMI is being used, then the box freaks out at random, displaying an error.
Try the component cables, and whatever else you need. I'd restart it after you get everything connected without the HDMI--just to be safe.
