- This same situation happened to me. The first time I returned the system. Solution is easy. Hold down the on/off button (blue/green light) on the right front of the console for about 10 secs until it beeps. This will reset the the system but will keep all of your network selections in tact. Nothing on your hard disk will be changed. You may need to answer some resolution questions, but that is the fix.- beadman

- My PS3 console recently stopped recognizing ps3 game discs.
The blue light on the console seems to recognize a disc but the icon does not appear on the screen.
PS2 games and dvd's work fine.

There is a fault with the laser unit in the PS3. This is similar to the PS2 DRE problems and usually replacing the laser fixes it.

What if you have no receipt and the warranty is already up and the ps3 wont read any games, movies, or etc. What should I do?

MOst of the probs I have seen have been after one of the new version upgrades mine crahed IMMEDIATELY after uploading the updates from Assassins Creed. I have heard tons about this happening immediately after updating w/ other versions. So I will beware when I have to update in the future.

its a problem with the latest download update. sorry to say but its a job for sony as long as its still under warranty. just phone them up explain the probs your having and they will send you a new (normally reconditioned) unit out. sony's replacement service is very good.

I was watching a Blu ray movie which froze on screen repeatedly. Since this it no longer recognises game discs. It does however recognise blu-ray film discs!! Grrrr!

Going to return it to retailer (not Sony) as my contract is with them.

my ps3 stopped readin games and dvds 2 days ago. can go on network no problem but thats it. on hold, on sony helpline, for 30 mins now. should i bring it back to the place i bought it or straight to sony?

i read on other forums that its a problem with version 2.01

well, i was playing and turned it off. about 2 hours later i turn the ps3 and the game just wont read, the icon on the upper right corner apears on loading but it wont recognize it.

stupid thing freezes and i can't even turn it off with controller so I switch the back off. then i turn it back on and it wont recognize game discs. its on the floor in an open location, i dunno whats wrong with it.

I was playing Call of Duty on late night until the game just stopped (screen turned black). Because it was late, I simply shut it off. Since then, the ps3 will not play/read/recognize any ps3 games. However, it plays movies, demos, and ps2 game, but NOT ps3 games.
I restored the ps3 to it's original state, but still no progress. I purchased my ps3 less than 2 months ago.

PS3 recognizes and reads Cds, DVDs, PS2 games, etc. But not PS3 games or Blu-ray movies... Could it have something to do with the firmware or is it only hardware issues (Blu-ray lense)?
