Question about Nintendo DS Console

1 Answer

Will not power up

My daughter's 1 year old nintendo DS will not power up after finding out a penny was jammed in the game port of slot 1. After pulling it out of her purse, she was not aware there was a penny stuck in there. Could this slot short circuit something in the circuit board? The batery is holding a perfect charge and there is no difference with the power cord hooked up.

You can buy replacement Slot 1 ports for a few £/$'s from various places online (I get mine from DealExtreme) and there may well be video guides to aid you on YouTube. Basically, if you're handy with a soldering iron, it's fiddly, but not too difficult once you've got the old port off and it'd accessable once you have removed the back from the DS (tri-wing driver needed)..... The port is soldered to the board at each corner so use some de-soldering braid and gently lever each corner while heating with the iron (don't worry too much if you lift some of the circuit board up) and snap all the pins from the old port by folding it back/forward on itself then use the iron to remove the pins from the solder individually.

Sorry it's so long winded lol.

I have a ds lite and an r4 about 1 1/2 year old had no problems until now when the r4 is in the ds thinks there is no game in, the r4 works in my daughters my ds will play normal games, help jo

Hello Chowder,

If you DS can't even detect anything's in the slot, then that is a problem. It's possible that your R4 is broken. Will it detect if you push down on the R4?

If you have the original R4, then it might have been time to upgrade anyway as newer games that come out need patching, and there hasn't been an official update for the R4 since 2008.

If you're looking to get genuine cards for your ds like the R4 SDHC (there are fakes out there), take a look here, I managed to find this site after I got burned at a few others. Loved having my emails responded to because I had loads of questions, and they were quick to ship it. US based support and shipping I believe.

The DS wont charge because my daughter stuck a penney in the DS

Try and unscrew all the covers for the DS and locate the penny. Just try not to stretch wires or anything.

A freezing nintendo lite!

The DS Card Slot may be loose. If so, try not to touch the game card while playing.

Or, there may be a piece of dust or lint in the card slot. If you can see the lint, pick it out with clean tweezers. If you cannot see it, ask a mechanic to open the Ds and pick the dust out.
