SimpleTech 1TB SimpleDrive Pro Duo External USB 2.0/eSata II by Fabrik Hard Drive Logo
Posted on May 06, 2009

Good Afternoon, I have an 64bit HP Pavillion System, brand new, with Vista Home Edition, I previously purchased a 1TB USB external HD Simpletech, works fine with XP, but not with vista, keeps looking for a driver, its a usb connection wouldn't apply it as a mass storage device? I did remove all USB controller devices and rebooted, but with no luck, stills acts for a driver. Thanks..

HP windows 8 does not recognize simpleteck hard drive

I purchased a SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 500GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Onyx for my Vista machine and all was well. Then I purchased a Windows 7 machine. It would not recognize the devise. I contacted SimpleTech only to be told my model cannot be used on machines newer that the Vista. Recently I purchased a Windows 8.1, did a little research, plugged the SimpleTech into the 8.1 and reformatted it using the Windows feature. The SimpleTech is alive and well on my 8.1.

How do I use my simpletech external hard drive. I

I have a 500GB and a 1TB. Both drives if they work at all, is because you have to apply the power after usb is connected. The 500MB still good but the 1TB took a big dump.

Western Digital 1TB harddrive won't open on laptop, will on deskt

Hi Helen,

You almost have it. Format it on the laptop, and the 64bit desktop will be able to read it.

Good Luck,

Mac OS X 10.4.11 SimpleDrive 1TB HD appears on Desktop only occasionally. Does not appear in Disk Utility. Have transferred files to it, light is on, plugged in, just takes several restarts to appear.

If you unplug the power and USB cables from the drive (but not the computer), plug in the power and then plug in the drive, the Mac will remount the drive on the desktop. I am having the same issue, only my old HDD used to be my TimeMachine drive and now I want my SimpleTech drive for that. The issue is that when the SimpleTech drive disappears, OS X automatically uses my old HDD for TimeMachine and all my disk space vanishes.

Very ARRGH!!!

I'm trying to find a better solution, because having to mess with the cables means it's no good for TimeMachine... and very frustrating on top of it.

Simpletech 1TB USB not recognised properly

I had a very similar problem. It turned out to be a faulty case.

If the drive was formatted, there is a very good chance you've destroyed your data and may need professional services to recover the files (if possible)

Chances are you just needed to replace the external case by removing the harddrive from the simpletech case and installing it in a new case.

But again, if the drive's been formatted, it may have wiped out your data.
