Question about Spherex Xbox 5.1 Surround Sound System Computer Speakers

Freezes, no sound, won't turn on!

I have a very unusual problem with my Xbox Spherex Surround system. It turns on fine, then after about 30 minutes to an hour of use, the sounds cuts off and the system stops responding to the remote, while the display remains normal. Then, I have to cut it off using the power switch. When I try to cut it on immediately, it either does nothing, or powers up with a garbled display and no sound. Sometimes it may work again after a few hours, sometimes days! But, the problem only repeats itself. I don't know whats causing it. I would REALLY appreciate any help with this. PLEASE HELP! Thanks.

Thanks for your help! I've opened it, brushed it clean, and taken it off the carpet, but unfortunately, the problem remains unsolved.  It's been a long time since I've used my system, because of this issue.  It used to take a long time to work again, but now it cuts off every few minutes, and I can cut it it off and right back on again. Sometimes it will stay on for 2 minutes, sometimes 2 hours, and sometimes when it cuts off, the center speaker pops once, then hisses as if air were coming out if it.  I think it may be an electronic problem, but I'm no expert.  Is there anything else I could try?  Thanks again for your great help, I appreciate it.

I have a similiar problem where when I turn on the power via the remote the little display comes up and then goes off thus no sound. It used to do it after a few minutes but now it does it 5 to 30 secounds after power on. Thanks for the tip regarding cleaning and one speark at a time.

I bought this for my kid and to tell you the truth he never abused it and really never used it alll that much and it's not quite a year. I tried to call for support but no one answers and there website has expired so I think there finished.

It appears that the unit is sensitive to EMF generated from static discharge (including my Samsung DLP television set warming up, distant lightning, and electrostatic discharge encountered in the home). I have placed the system on an isolated circuit, using a filtered power supply, and disconnected all 4 speakers and the display head (after turning the unit on, of course) and was able to cause it to pop and freeze by generating a static discharge within the room (I took the lid off a popcorn tin, walked around the room and then placed the lid back on the tin). I could cause the system to freeze from over 20 feet away by doing this. Since this also happens every time I use the television, I rarely use my Spherex system. This is my second unit, the first being replaced under warranty for the same problem.

Good Day Everyone.
I acquired said speakers off a family member with the same problems. Spherex went out of business but the main head company exists in Canada. I spoke to a representative from the head office, the spherex xbox system suffers from cold solder issues and catches fire because of it. When I pulled of the assembly off the sub woofer box, I noticed that on the board the sub woofer speaker and power transformer are connected to, it had burn marks on where a bank of 4 diodes and power resister are connected. That area needs to be resoldered to adjoining solder spots. this will stop problems with power and sound issues. P.S Make sure diodes didn't burn out. Audio Products International (API) still has parts for sale.

Hi Joeker, I believe you have a problem with heat. Also to get this problem solved, you need to open the main box and clean it up real good. I use a paint brush to dust off the circuit boards. Clean all the dust and lint out of the box. Put it allback together and make sure the main box has plenty of ventilation. do not set it on carpet, this will restrict it's natural circulation of air. I truly hope this helps you.

Next step,  Try it using just one of the Satelite speakers at a time. If it keeps running with just one, add another. If it goes with the one you hooked up, try a different one.  This probably want fix it, but a step towards getting to the root cause of failure.

Speakers have hiss and crackle but no sound coming through optical feed on spherex xbox 5.1 surround system

the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

Spherex XBOX surround system has started shutting itself down after around 30 seconds. Prior to this, the display starts "pulsing". Is this an inexpensive repair, or should I ditch the system and buy...

Hi there bud ....What i suggest is , if you still have a warranty , send it in and see what they can do....Otherwise Compare the price of a repair and a price of a new one...and there you go :)

Spherex Xbox 5.1 Surround suound..USB does not work

If the xbox is not able to recognise the usb, it is most likely that the product is not compatible with the xbox i would look for an adapter which would take the usb connection to the xbox's analog connection, or if your speakers have a stero 2.5 connection then you can easily find an adapter to connect to the xbox's analog connection in the back, the analog connection is the red and white ports at the back!.

Spherex surround sound wont stay on

Mr. Vargas is right mine also won't turn on and upon further inspection I found burn discoloration on the boad where the two power cables are connected. The burn spot is where the four diodes are locaed and the big power cable connection. I am not sure how to replace these diodes or where to find them. Never done this stuff but will try for sure. Please post if you have any suggestions. thanks
