Re: Password protection for my linksys wireless router

You need to get into the routers settings and look in the menu for security and select atleast WEP security and either you type a password in to reveal a 8 digit code or type in your own mixture of numbers and letters, which will then have to be entered into each pc when they try to connect. You can also look in the SSID and remove the name or dissable SSID so as your network will not appear on anybody elses wireless searches.

How will i change the password of my WAG200G router, and how can i access my linksys to change password

Do you mean the router's login password or the encryption password?
To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

How do i make my router unavailable to the public access

You can go to your router settings (Usually by default, and then go to wireless settings and set up a password and security encryption. This will make your router unavailable to your neighbors, unless they know your password and basic hacking techniques.

I am going to walk you through the steps to password protect your connection.

On a computer connected to the linksys now.

Click the link below

On the page that comes up, it will ask for a username and password.

type in admin for the password, leave the username blank

You are inside the router..

Click on wireless, then right under it click on wireless security.

Where it says authentication, click it and change it to wpa2 psk

Where it says, PSK / Passphrase / Or Network key .. There is a text box to the right

In that text box is where You will have to type in a new password, and click apply / save settings.

Then.. The router will restart..

You have now set your wireless password.

Let me know how this worked out for you. If my solution helped you, please rate this solution!
It doesn't cost anything and only takes a second, but it is greatly appreciated.

How do i secure my wireless system

one way of doing so is by entering your routers ip address into the address bar when you open up your web browser. usually its something like or from there you'll see a whole slew of options and what not . but what your looking for is a wifi area where you can set yourself a password. this way your neighbors can't use your internet and you can use all your bandwidth. i cant give you much more information than that because i dont know what router your using. otherwise i could give you a full on tutorial on how to fix this problem. also generating a WEP key is ideal too usually its a 18-27 randomly generated code that you can program into your wifi for ultimate security but remember you'll have to write it down so you dont forget. also after you set up your password for the internet you can set your browser or network to identify the password directly from your computer so it doesn't just give out free bandwidth.
well hope this helps.
