Only what you can do is to bring the receiver into repair shop. The receiver has a hardware problem.

I took my receiver to the local Yamaha repair

The board price won't be cheap. Were they going to replace the board or repair it? It is possible that the component parts are not available from Yamaha and the only option is to replace the board. Other shops may be able to repair the board. What was the original problem that lead them to want to replace the board?

The receiver volume was cranked up. receiver

sounds like you shorted out the amplifier or one of the capacitors was overloaded.

New units have a feature that prevent the volume from being cranked up when they power up.

You will have to take it in for repair but before you do that you will need to determine what its worth.

I say this because a basic repair is going to be $150 so yo must weight whether its best to spend that money on repiring or just replacing the unit.

fair market value on your receiver is under $100 so I wouldn't recommend sending it in for repair.

here is a LINK to recently sold units

Hope that helps

Alinco DR-635. On two meters, there is no received audio.

I think your 2M section has a dead FET in the receiver front end. The FET transistors are bad about being destroyed by ESD, as they are not gate protected. This is a repair shop job, unless you are very good with repairing surface mount technology. The 635 is a good rig, well worth the repair costs. Consider using a factory repair shop, to get the job done right. There is an Alinco group on Yahoo Groups, join them and ask where to send your radio for repair. They will know who is reliable enough to trust your treasured radio to for repair.
Good Luck,
Longshorts.

Protect Mode on. Want to repair/return to normal

Sounds like your receiver is fried. Your best choice is probably to take it to a repair facility, where they can figure out what component failed, or to buy a new receiver.
