i actually have 2 nc6120 notebooks, one works perfectly, the other refuses to allow its wireless and bluetooth to be turned on (normally done by a button near the screen)
so far, i have tried swapping the harddrives, thinking maybe a driver problem. i have tried swapping the button panels that have the wireless button on them, thinking maybe the button or chip was faulty. and i have tried swapping the wireless mini pci cards.
but no success. the problem stayed with the motherboard each time
i also checked the cmos setup and the wlan card and bluetooth are both enabled there
this isn't the first time i've encountered this problem, i have another nc6120 and an nc8430 with the exact same problem
any help would be greatly appreciated

- i've already tried putting a perfectly working nc6120 hdd into it (swapped from a working machine) to no availMay 06, 2009
- the device manager in both machines (working and not working) matched exactly, except for the bluetooth (which is disabled in the non working machine)May 06, 2009
- all other devices seem to work fine, no problems in device manager
just tried without the battery and same storyMay 06, 2009
- palaboy do you mean the mac addresses? yes, they are differentMay 06, 2009
- they are both set to automatically obtain an ip address, but my problem isnt connecting to my network, my problem is that the wireless and bluetooth are essentially disabled. (the laptop doesnt see the hardware)May 06, 2009
- the device is already enabled in device manager, i also tried disabling and re-enabling it.
safe mode also doesnt work
theres a led on the wireless button that is on when the wireless is enabled.
on the laptop that works, that light can be switched on and off before the OS even loads (even from cmos setup).
on the laptop that doesnt work, it doesnt come on at all.
this tells me it isnt a driver or windows problemMay 06, 2009
- warranty expired in febMay 07, 2009
- already checked the bluetooth and wireless are enabled in bios
and adding a usb network card defeats the purpose, as i am trying to fix it for resaleMay 07, 2009
- if anything apart from the wireless card is preventing it from getting on the network, it would be a software problem that would have been resolved when i swapped the hard drive with one from my fully functioning unit (which is still fully functioning and connecting to the network despite having the other unit's hdd)

- also, i can connect to the network using the ethernet port

- tried flashing the bios with the latest update, still no effect. i agree that it probably is a motherboard or connector issue
