Okay, popped MY memory card in... cool, yes? then , NOTHING, but NOISE shows on the display monitor... All images on card are viewable just fine (so I know it's not the LCD screen--right?), but I can't take picture, there's nothing there! Please tell me it's something easy to fix!! I have the exact same problem. Had the camera for about 5 weeks. I turn on the camera and it read "Lens Error" and turns off. I work at an authorized Nikon service center and I don't see many S3000 models coming in for repairs. Most camera point and shoot models that have an extending lens are subject to lens errors. Most of those errors are also a result of shock or impact and not manufacturer's defect. Hope this helps!

A tiny bit of grit can jam the gears of the lens. Sometimes a tap can knock it out. Try this at your own risk. Take out the batteries. Don't hit the camera on a hard surface, just use you hand. If it hurts, that is too hard. Try lens down, then all the sides.
Hi, When system control does not get lens initialize signal while extending it, then it try again by folding it and extending and still no required initialize signal then generate error and stop further functions.
Please remove battery and open camera and remove flexible wire of lens mechanism from connector, there would be lock that needs to release to remove flexible wire. Clean wire terminals with alcohol, let it dry and put back flexible wire in connector and lock it. Now put battery and power camera up, hopefully lens will work properly.

A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. Before sending the camera in, check these:
1. Use the memory card that originally came with the camera (or a Nikon approved card) 2. Remove and replace the battery
If the error is still displayed, contact Nikon's Service Department (below). If the above tips do not help the camera must be sent to Nikon Service, there are no user serviceable parts on Nikon Coolpix cameras.
This may not be able to be fixed. Sounds like internal trouble. Could be a loose link internally. Could be some problem with the ccd sensor. If the colors change as you are trying to take a picture, then suspect the ccd sensor. If it is the ccd, then Nikon may fix it for free. I suggest you go to the Nikon website for your country, and call the (usually toll free) number for service and information. Take care,
