Toshiba Laptop L40 Series.
I changed from Windows Vista to Windows XP and I cannot get any sound from Windows Mediacentre.
I have gone into Control Panel and it is saying I have No audion device.
Before I changed over the media player was working OK.

Hi, You need a windows XP sound driver for your sound card. If you know your sound card's name go to
www.toshiba.com and look for your country support then Service and Support choose the laptop you have and download the driver for your sound card or if you couldn't find it email the and get the drivers from them.
or go to:
www.google.com and search for "download driver your sound card's name"
and install it.
Or if you don't know the name of your sound card follow the steps below:
Control Panel >> System >> Hardware >> Device Manager
Look for yellow signed "Other Device" >> see if mentions your sound card's name.

if not then you need to see your laptop's manual.
Please come back and leave a good feedback for me to keep me on this site.
Kind Regards

Get the drivers from Realtek's site (this is the manufacturer of your sound hardware), not from Toshiba's site or CDs.

Like here:

Furthermore, this what made the mess on my notebook was that the "Unknown PCI Device" was not in a section "Unknown Devices" where one usually expects it, but well hidden down between the system devices. So, have the patch from MS for HighDefinition sound, have the drivers for your card, exterminate all unknown PCI devices (look in the System Devices section, too) and you should have it working.
