Evo 610c won't turn on

My compaq evo 610c laptop worked great until a few weeks ago. One day I turned it off and it wouldn't turn back on. After an hour of pushing the power button, it finally turned back on. So I was thinking it was maybe an old CMOS battery or the ac adapter. I kept the computer on for four days without turning it off because I was afraid it wouldn't start again. I was right. I had turned it off to take it with me to do a presentation, when I went to turn it back on it wouldn't turn on. This time, I pushed the power button for three hours and nothing. No lights, no fan whirring, nothing. My father took it apart and checked the CMOS battery and the power adapter -- both a working fine and drawing the right amps. Someone else told me that it could be the motherboard or some other power thingy on the motherboard. Where do I go from here? I don't have a lot of money to spend and I don't have any spare parts laying around to swap in and out. Any help will be appreciated.

That is a good suggestion, my Dad checked the battery and it seems to be holding a charge. We even switched the battery and power adapter with another computer and the good computer worked and the now bad computer still did nothing.

I left my laptop on while I took a n ap and when I woke up, it was off. I thought nothing at first....But, later when I tried to turn it on, it was totally dead. I thought maybe the outlet but, I tried another outlet and nothing. What can be the issues?

I had the same problem. One day it turns on and the next day nothing. I checked the battery and the power adapter - both good to go. Had it check out and they could not find the problem because it turn on when they tried. I got it home - again nothing. This is a new computer and this should not happen. Please help.

I had the exact same problem with my Evo N610c not powering on. The power adapter and CMOS battery checked out ok. Replacing the DC-DC Convertor board resolved this issue. The HP part # for this board is 291263-001 which you can find at various locations online for typically $10 - $20. Just Google on the part #.

Hi Mukhtar
I had a similar problem like yours and the same laptop. I managed to find the solution. It was the DC-DC converter board in it. Cost me 10$ to fix it.

I have a Compaq Evo N1020v and I tried to reinstall the operating system and now I am getting "Error loading operating system". This is an older computer but it was working fine up to a few days ago....

"tried to" do you mean it finished installation and it was succesful? I doubt that

I think you realy have to do the installation again
the best way is to delete all partitions and format
after.

Evo n400c

Did you charge it for up to 8 hours?

Caring for your Compaq Evo N400c Laptop Battery You can improve the life of your Compaq Evo N400c Laptop Battery by doing the following:
When you first receive your laptop battery charge it fully for at least 6-8 hours and then discharge the battery fully by using your laptop unplugged from the mains until it runs down completely.

Repeat this 3 times to ensure your Compaq Evo N400c Laptop Battery will give you the maximum performance.

If you regularly use your Compaq Evo N400c Laptop on mains power for extended periods, removing the battery from your Laptop during these periods will extend the usable life of your laptop battery.

LCD Panel Dying....Inverter Issue? CCFL Lamp Burning out?

The problem is not the inverter. The problem is with the backlight. Being similar to a flourescent tube, it is glowing pink, because the gas inside the tube is getting weak. You will need to replace the backlight, or the whole screen if no one in your area is qualified. It is the width of a large pencil lead, and just a
fragile. So if you have to handle it yourself, replace the LCD. Easier, but more expensive.

Inverter issues are usually ON/OFF screen. Either it works or not
