Rebuilding Library to Firmware Problem error...HELP

When I turned the mp3 player on it goes through and starts the rebuilding the library screen (not sure why it even did this)... before it completes the rebuild i get the firmware problem error. Any and all suggestions are appreciated... even if i can't get my player back to functional any advice on how to get my music off it would be helpful thanks

    Same problem...I recently downloaded some music from a site I always use without issue, and ever since it has been displaying "Rebuilding Library" when I turn it on. The worst part is that several artists have completely disappeared from the library, but it's random - some of the music I recently downloaded is there, some is gone, and then other music I have had for a while is gone.

    Is there any way to save the music??

    I have the same problem. But, two problems with this solution. My computer does not recognize the mp3 player and the recovery tool does not work for the zen jukebox xtra unless I am mistaken. AND I cannot get off the firmware problem.

    Anyone have any luck? Thanks!

try downloading the
MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.

By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok?

The screen says" rebuilding the library, please wait"

Rhapsody (if that's the program you're using) uses a database file to store your library information on your computer (locally). Every time you sign into Rhapsody, this database must synchronize its contents with the Rhapsody servers. Sometimes your local Rhapsody database goes out of sync with the main Rhapsody servers, causing trouble with your library or playlists.

If Rhapsody is unable to resynchronize, you may get this error message. This error can also be caused by local database corruption or security settings blocking the connection to the server. To resolve this issue:

1. First, close Rhapsody, then re-open it and try again.
2. Try resetting your Internet Explorer privacy / security settings for Rhapsody
3. If that doesn't work, try resynchronizing Rhapsody with the server running a simple tool called dbclient
To run the dbclient:
Open My Computer.
  1. In the C: drive, browse to Program Files.
  2. Open the Rhapsody program file folder usually named 'Rhapsody'.
  3. Double-click the dbclient program in this folder (Vista users: right-click dbclient and select Run As Administrator).
  4. When the Success dialog box appears, click OK.
  5. Start Rhapsody and sign back in.

File system errors / possible firmware bugs.

Here are some observations.

With the internal memory formatted by the player itself:

1) The player always has multiple malformed root directery entries that don't show up as files in Windows Explorer. Particually, the "Services" folder is slightly malformed. On some systems, the Services folder won't show up in Windows Explorer (like Windows 98).

2) Any memory formatted by the player whether intneral or a microsd card, will be completely missing a partition table.

If the internal memory is formatted by anything else other than the player itself:

1) The player will not be able to write the library database and user settings to the internal memory. The song and artist names will always be "Unknown" and "rebuilding library" every time the player is truned on. The library database and user settings files show up as multiple zero length files in the root directory, one with the same name for each time the player is turned on.

2) The Audible directory will be created and filled with many, many garbage files with garbage names with very big sizes that don't actually take up memory space.

3) Trying to use a microsd card that was formatted by anyhing else results in the player hanging when rebuilding library when it tries to scan the external microsd card. The player has to be shut off buy holding the power switch.

Mp3 stuck in rebuilding library mode

hello guys sorry to hear your problems i have same problems too. Ok first plug ur zen player (mines V PLUS.. heheh) to ur pc then hold play button then keep pressing the reset botton until it turns on RECOVERY MODE then select YES to all (clean up, format, reload firmware) then download the RECOVRY TOOLS at creative site install it then plug ur zen player and run the recovery tools (cross ur finger) hopes it works mine a big smile hehehe email me at if it works..Gud Luck guys

Why zen sleek photo won't download music

i have a zen sleek and every time i turn it on it says rebuilding library. It completes this but deletes the last album etc that i put onto it. back down to the last album i put on before it started doign it. So i cant put anymore mousic on becuase it deletes it..Any Help?

Corrupt DB, firmware to reolve on creative website

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

Detach your player from the PC if it is connected, and turn off the player.
If the player stops responding, you can reset the player. To reset the player, gently
insert a thin object into the Reset hole located below the power switch.

2. Press and hold the Play button while powering on your player.

3. When the player displays the Creative logo, release the Play button.
It will display the following options:
Clean Up
Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library.
Does not affect music files themselves.
Format (All)
Caution! Erases all content!
Save a copy of your player's content before formatting.
Reload OS/ Firmware
Caution! Erases your player's firmware.
DO NOT select the Reload Firmware option unless you have access to a PC and you have downloaded the necessary firmware to install.
Reboot Reboots the device.

if it keeps on rebuilding the library the disk had a bad spot on it try going in to recover mode and do a clean if that doesn't work do a format if that doesn't work download the latest firmware if that doesn't fix you will need a new hard drive or flash drive.

Freezes at rebuilding library

go into recovery mode and do a clean up if that doesnt work you will have to do a format.
also make sure you have the current firmware version.
