SOURCE: Plug and play? doubtful.

Is the drive partitioned and formatted already?
Does it work on another computer?
Is the drive powered via the usb cable, or does it have an adapter?
Do you have any networked drives on this computer?

When it is connected on your computer,
click Start
right click Computer
click Manage
double click Storage
double click Disk Management

Is it in the list of drives in the lower half of the window?

mrtunink,
Yellow ! simbol show in the usb devices means your usb driver may be corrupt so OS can't recognised the usb devices, u have to reinstall the driver like that way,

At first right click on my computer icon- then select propertices- then "hardware" - then click on devices manager buttons- then select ur devices and right click on it and click propertices then u finds reinstalls button under its propertices click on it and select install software automatically (recomanded) and click on ok. then windows scarch its driver automatically and install it.

My computer will not provide access to the toshiba external hard drive

1)Check that the drive is receiving enough power to spin up. The USB port might not provide enough power, in which case a powered hub or other external power supply might be the solution.

2)Check the cable. A bad connection anywhere in the chain can block current flow, both for power and for data transfer.

3)If you can open the enclosure without damaging it, check that all internal connections are good.

hello, i would advice you to format your external hard drive by write clicking on it and click on format and click on start to begin, if this does not allow you to still put files on your external hard drive, then insert it on a friend laptop and see whether you can move files to it. I have a 320gb toshiba external hard drive, i've been using it around 3 years without any trouble. A few days ago i lost the cable connecting it to the PC. I bought a few cables but no use. Doesn't...

Hi there,

This is because there is a connection problem between the external drive and the computer. If you have changed cables to no avail, you can open the casing of the external drive where you will find the hard disk inside. Unplug the two cables connected to the harddisk and replug it after a minute. Then try again. If it still does not work, then you need to buy just a usb enclosure and plug the harddisk there to be able to use it again.

Hope this helps. Thank you for using FixYa.

I cannot connect my external hard drive through the sata port

Install the external hard drive into an USB hard drive adapter case. You can then connect this into the Toshiba's USB port. The Toshiba will see this as an external storage device.

Flashing LED light but not working

Unfortuntly, this caused the drives power source to be exceded and damage the drive or circut board. If you know someone that knows computer well, have them or yourself take the hard drive out and manually connect the driver to a computer and extract your data, if the drive is not damage that is, there is know way to know for sure until you try to connect to a PC directly. Or, purchas another USB external housing.
