I lived with the problem for 6+ Months -- drove me NUTS -- Today, I called Fellows -- Spoke to "JoAnn"... She said this works 80% of the time...
Pull out the bin -- put your foot inside to hold the shredder down -- pull up on the top of the shredder -- you WILL hear a POP as the plastic top disengages from the bottom but TRUST ME THIS IS OK! -- take off this top section (which houses the blades) -- flip it over -- you will see 6 screws total but it is the sets of 2 screws close together to focus on -- right next to the screws you will see a tiny glass sensor -- use a q-tip and alcohol to give them a wipe -- press the top back on -- bin back in -- you are DONE -- This took me less than 1 minute and it works as it did the day I got it! Go shred something! :)

you will need to take it aprt. over time paper dust gets in the gears, transmission and bushings. you will need to remove all the dust and inspect the drive gears. mosyt of these come apart buy taking it off the stand. flipping it over, messy. removeing the bottm bolts/screws. then maybe remove trans mission cover.

look for two LED lights where paper falls into bin and wipe them off, but the sensors could be faulty as well. I have seen both.

Try putting some oil on a sheet of paper and then shredding the paper with oil on it.
If that dosn't fix it....take cover off....(with the unit unplugged.) and check plastic gears in drive train.

If the moter runs but the cutting shafts are not turning then you have likely stripped a gear.... unplug, open top to see which one the give Royal a call at 1-800-524-0799; they should be able to help with parts.
