SOURCE: Honeywell T86A3006 24V Class 2 Round thermostat 8020

The honeywell tradeline thermostat would work as a direct replacement (no mercury in the new ones), however if your using just heaters and no cooling system off of it, you could Heat only thermostat from honeywell that would replace your unit as well. Both at available at Ace Hardware with the heat only unity being roughly 7 dollars cheaper.

SOURCE: Thermostat Wiring: W2? E? Where to connect?

You have a heat pump. You need a thermostat for "Heat pump with Electric back-up heat". Make sure the 'stat has either an "aux" (auxilliary heat) or an "E"(Emergency heat) terminal. The wiring instructions will be provided with the thermostat.

SOURCE: my honeywell ct87K thermostat will not turn the heater on

On your thermostat - R is the power in terminal. Y is the cooling out. W is the heating out. (G is fan out). It does not matter which wire goes to R, the other should go to W - if no heat with a call, the thermostat is bad.

The heater won't stay powered on

Locate the flame sensor (connected only to one wire) and remove it. Some people use fine sandpaper, I use WD-40 to clean it. And I do this every year at the beginning of Winter. Good luck!

Heater does not turn on

If you have a gas hot water heater that won't stay on, check to see if pilot light is out and relight it if it is. If you have an electric hot water heater that won't stay on, then you should have an electrician check the wiring.
