Question about Desert Spring Autoflush

Open Question

Desert spring auto flush won't stop draining

I have hooked up the Desert Spring DS3200 for the season. The wiring looks correct, because the motor will turn on when the furnace is on. The 24vAC adapter is plugged in and the blue light indicates that. When I turn on the water, the water tries to fill the basin, but just keeps flowing out the auto flush. I have tried to reset it by holding the reset button for more than 3 seconds as the troubleshooting guide recommended. The water just still keeps draining like a valve inside the auto flush has stopped working. Is there another valve I can get, or do I need to replace the entire AutoFlush unit (109.00) YIKES! Thanks! SOURCE: My desert springs humidifier doesn't

Well, let's see what service the unit has had in its 6 or 7 years of working--

When was the Humidifying pad last changed?
These usually have to be changed every year-- to get good performance from the humidifier...
So-- Have you looked inside the large door?-- what does the pad look like?

When the furnace is running, you should be able to open the humidifier door, and look in, (Air should be sucking INTO the door as you open it, if the unit is properly mounted in the return air duct work..) and if the humidistat is calling -- the motor should be turning the big wheel, and moisture is being added, as the wet surface is exposed to the air returning to the furnace. What do you see?

There is also a water sump, filled by a float valve-- is that valve admitting water into the sump?
Is the pad wicking up this water, and rotating into the air stream?

That pad is easily changed-- your hard ware store probably has replacement pads-- they can be sewn back on to the wheel, after removing the old one.

Filter lasting only about one week--"needle" almost on Red model SCM3502 cool most humidifier

If your water is well water, more than likely that's the problem. To many minerals and iron. Try cleaning the humidifier with a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and either bottled spring water or distilled water. Fill the tank about half way and run the humidifier until the tank is almost empty. You may want to do this outside in garage if possible, because of the vinegar odor. Then run a full tank of bottled Spring Water or Distilled water through it, to flush out any vinegar residue.

I would highly recommend, that if in fact you're using well water, stop using the well water and switch to bottled spring water or distilled water.

Hope this solves your problem. Please let me know.

Mist coning out leavs white dust all over wood work, why?

More than likely the problem is minerals in the water. Impeller and ultrasonic designs send these minerals into the air. If the water in your area contains a lot of minerals, you will notice them as dust.

I would suggest that if you're using well water, switch to using bottled spring water or bottled distilled water. But you'll need to flush out your humidifier first. Use a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and water. Fill the tank about half way and run the humidifier until the tank is almost empty. You may want to do this in a garage, if you have access to one, so that the vinegar odor won't remain in the house. Once this has been accomplished, dump out any of the remaining solution and flush the unit again with bottle spring water or distilled water. That should do the trick

Even if you aren't using well water, since your water supply has a high mineral content. I would strongly encourage you to use bottled spring water or distilled water in the future. By the way, a gallon of Distilled Water cost a lot less than bottled spring water. In my area I can get a gallon of distilled water from CVS Pharmacy or Food Lion for about $1.00.

Good luck. Please let me know if this solved your problem.

Can a class 2 transformer 24v, 12VA be used for DS3200 humidifie

Depends on what Volts and VA your DS3200 humidifier works on. If it is the same, no problem but if it is different don't do it.

Humidity too low

I corrected the problem...RH is rising nicely!! Installed by "professionals" on my Trane XV90....I redid their wiring and now have the following setup...

600A water supply coming from hot water line.
Removed orifice inside incoming feed tube.
control incoming water flow from saddlevalve on hot water supply ( make sure its a nice solid flow, no drips, but no "force" too it either)..enough to insure entire evaporator unit is wet and water is slightly flowing out of bottom to drain.

I also have it wired to run when ever the furnace blower is on. Heat or no heat. XV90 is variable speed, and by doing this the 600a is always adding moisture, until it reaches correct RH%

Also, I disconnected the outdoor temp sensor. I went to Radio Shack and bought a 47K ohm resistor ( 1/2 watt....4 pack for 99 cents). Installed that in place of outdoor sensor...now runs in manual mode. Have unit currently set to number 5.

Continous ware flow on Honeywell HE220A Humidifier

I am having the same problem. I have had my humidifier for about 5 years now and I just started having the problem where the water continuously flows through the solenoid. I took apart the solenoid by removing the fittings from both sides. When I did that, I noticed that there was a hole in the metal that allowed me to see through to the other side. Apparently, it had corroded and and broken through, allowing the water to pass through the solenoid without really going through the valve within the solenoid. There are several sites that sell replacements for about $70, which is not cheap, but cheaper than buing a new humidifier for $120. Here is one site I found: http://www.iaqsource.com/product.php/honeywell/32001639-002/?product=112783&category=1142
