Prints without any errors but no ink on the paper.

I've replaced both the black and color ink cartridges and have also replaced the print head (all from canon) but still no ink ever gets on the paper. Have noticed some ink under the ink tanks inside the print head.

Same problem... IP90 has new ink...and acts like it is printing, but nothing ends up on the paper. Canon Customer Service just referred me to a local repair shop.

Same problem. Have replaced ink cartridges several different times and just installed a new printhead, but absolutely no ink ever gets on the paper. The printer appears to be working normally, no weird sounds or flashing lights, but when the paper comes out there is no ink at all.

I also have this problem. My printer is new (six months old now), and initially I received a defective printer (wouldn't work out of the box). This replacement had been fine for the first few months, but this summer it saw very little use. When I would use it, it printed as if the nozzles were clogged. After several attempts at cleaning, I replaced the printer cartridges. The printer then worked, so I assumed it was because I was in a dry area, perhaps something dried up. Today, I replaced the cartridges and color works, but I can not get the black to print. This is a super frustrating issue...someone please help. I was thinking about ordering a new print head, but apparently that didn't fix the problem for others. The posted suggestion is not the issue. The ink cartridges are snapped in place as they should be. Any other ideas?

If you have new print head assembly and cartridges, and waited for flow, and the printer is MECHANICALLY sound (not dropped or G-force damaged), then all that is left is improper cartridge installation. You may not have the cartridges fully inserted/, or maybe they are not PROPERLY inserted. Look for a snap when in place (and no wiggle). I suspect this is your problem, because one symptom you mention, ink accumulation INSIDE the head/cartridge cradle, is VERY rare -unless the cartridge is inserted improperly. The cartridges/head assemblies have VERY good seals to prevent leakage. Unless the o-rings/seals are damaged, leakage outside the seal just does not happen at all, normally.

*New head/cartridge installs can take several hours -sometimes even a day in cold weather, for small iP90-like printers to saturate the heads -and print.

I have an hp psc 1215 all-in-one. My black cartridge won't print. It recognises if I swap it out for a new one, and goes through all the motions. It registers the correct ink levels. The cradle...

The problem is not with the ink-cartridges. You've proved that, by swapping BLACK cartridges.

The problem is that the ink-jets that spray the BLACK ink onto the paper are clogged.
Thus, no BLACK ink reaches the paper.

Open the HP Printing Assistant, and open Utilities, and run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to try to unclog the print-head.

Printer does not print in color but only prints in

Run a "print-head-cleaning-cycle" -- the ink inside the cartridges is not getting through the ink-jets, and is not reaching the paper.

Either that, or the electronics inside the ink-jets are malfunctioning, i.e., not telling the ink-jets to shoot the ink out.

Black and white prints are not black

Sorry, steve, that you are experiencing this problem.

According to canon.com's website regarding the i9900 InkJet Photo Printer:

Why color ink may be used when printing in black and white Even when printing in black and white, color ink is used for the following reasons:
  1. Automatic cleaning of the print head.

To prevent the print head nozzles from clogging, the print head is automatically cleaned periodically. At that time, a small amount of each color ink is consumed.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink is also consumed.

  2. Color inks may be used to create black.

When printing in grayscale or on photo paper or when duplex printing, although printing appears in black and white, the color black may be created using the three (cyan, magenta, and yellow) color inks. Printers without a pigment black tank / cartridge will print black / grayscale will create a composite black using color ink even on plain paper.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink may be consumed.
  3. In order to keep the heavy black ink from smearing on the page or in the printer, color ink is used when duplex printing to help create black text.

    ---
I might suggest taking out the color ink cartridges leaving only black there, but some printers don't take kindly to this. So, you may have to further experiment with magenta, cyan, and yellow to make it at least seem b&w to your best eye's judgment.

Good luck on this.

PRINTER (not web camera!) HP Deskjet 712c Printer began printing mostly blackPrinter began printing mostly black & magenta so I replaced the color cartridge. Color did not improve and then black...

First run the CLEAN HEADS and see if that helps. If you don't use your printer at least once a week the Print Heads get dried out and will not allow the ink to pass through to the paper.
Go to control Panel and click on Printess. Then when the window comes up, CLICK on Properties TAB and then in the next window, CLICK on CLEANING.
You may have to replace your PRINT HEAD if that doesn't work.
Hope this is of some help. Bud

I have a dell printer A960 I refilled color cartridge and have not used it for about 2 months and now it only prints in red what can I do

The print heads on your ink cartridges have dried up. Ink printers need to print in black and white and color once a week. Doing this will extend the usable life of your cartridge because the ink will not dry on the print head and clog it. You can try and get the ink flowing yourself by resting the print head on a warm moist paper towel until you see ink on the towel (ink stains most surfaces so be careful where you do this). To check your progress, press the print head into a dry paper towel. You should see three entire distinct colors for the color cartridge and one black line for the black cartridge. If you can't get it flowing again you will need to buy new cartridges. You can get Dell refills from Cartridge World if you would like to save some money.

Hp 6150 won't print clearly --new cartridges are in

Clean the print head if you suspect that the nozzles might be clogged. Cleaning the print head consumes ink, so perform print head cleaning only when necessary.

Hope this initial info/idea helps.

Repacing the color inks with black ink on the epson 1290

Well, since you say you'll be using new cartridges you shouldn't have any nozzle problems. About the worst case I can see would be the slight chance of getting too much ink on the paper resulting in wet paper and a stained platten roller. Seems like an interesting experiment over all.

Nozzle problems arise when reusing cartridges. The very thin metal film that is the nozzle assembly gets worn down as the print head moves over paper and after a number of pages printed the little holes that are the nozzles get larger making for fuzzy, wetter than it should be, streaky printing.

Enjoy,
Carl
