Question about Canon LBP5200

Colour Laser Printer Problem

I bought this unit secondhand & it looks in good condition. Never tested it beforehand because the drum had expired & the toners were empty. Added refurbished drum & new Canon 301 Toner cartridges (4) & it prints nice colour photos down only one side (right) of the page, fading out to blank by the centre of the page in the direction of page travel. I suspect the laser unit is at fault. I re-chipped the original drum but the result is the same. Can anybody pin point the problem please. The print count is less than 4K. The cleaning function makes no difference. Regards Chris from South Australia.

Don't use refurbished drum. Proceed with new.

The setting for this is with the fax settings which you will have to find the switch for. It is usually under the cover for the 10 pad key board. Just switch the switch and use the arrow keys to navigate the menu. It will be under the reports area and you have all sorts of options you can answer yes or no to. Don't forget to switch the switch back to original position. It takes a bit of practise, but you will get the hang of it.

Sometimes the cartridge has a little piece of plastic covering the part that puts the ink on the page. Check that this is removed as it could be causing a blockage.

My printer has an error, slide the blue tab on the drum unit. which is the drum unit?

The Drum Unit is the big tray that all the cartridges sit in. Each colour has a slider for cleaning. Take out the toner unit that is having a problem. Look in the cavity the toner cartridge sits in. There will be a plasticcover over the slider. Lift the plastic cover and slide the blue tab all the way to the other side then back to where it was sitting before. Close the cover and re-insert the cartridge.

If it does not specify a colour then do them all.

Why is there ghost printing/shadows on my xerox workcentre 7335?

You don't say if the ghost is a particular colour, by ghost I suspect you mean similar to a drop shadow.
Firstly run off an internal test print, one of each colour if the grid lines are fine and showing no signs of shadow then your problem is not an internal problem. Don't send a C,M,Y,K test print from your computer, you can't eliminate colours that way.
If you can pin the problem down to one colour it could be a particular drum unit. Investigate from there.
Good Luck.

Color ghost/shadow printing problem

Run off an internal test print, one of each colour grid, from there you can pin down the problem. If one particular colour shows the problem then it could be the drum for that particular colour. the drums are interchangeable.
Good Luck,

Vertical lines

Lines in prints with this machine would suggest a fault with a drum unit. As each toner cartridge contains its own drum unit it is likely to be a particular colour at fault. If the colour is not immediately obvious, I would recommend printing off a test page like the one here:

I have a Dell 1700n. The paper runs through the machine fine but no toner is being deposited on the paper at all. It is a brand new toner cartridge and a new drum. Don't know if it worked before as I...

A laser printer works by feeding a sheet of paper in from a hopper, negatively charging it by passing it over the corona wire. At the same time the drum is being scanned by the laser, which attracts toner to the drum before being put onto the paper. The paper is then passed through a heater (fuser unit) which bonds the toner to the paper.
If there's no toner being deposited on the page, even in a test print, then it could be that the laser isn't firing or that the drum isn't being charged properly by either the laser.
To test, start to print a page, half way through switch off the printer and look to see what is on the drum. If the drum has toner on it (should be a reverse image of what you are trying to print), then the toner isn't being deposited on the paper (corona wire).

Black toner cartridge prints everything in gray

Well if your warranty is expired, I guess you really have had the cartridge quite a while.

There are a couple of things (cartridge related) that could be the cause.

The toner can settle in the cartridge, so try removing the cartridge from the printer, and holding it drum downwards give it a good shake side to side.

If the cartridge was stored in too warm a place, the toner could have formed a solid lump. This situation can be made worse if the cartridge bag was opened (or not sealed properly), and the storage conditions were damp as well.

Was the cartridge still in a sealed bag unitl you recently put it in the printer ??

If not, the drum could have been affected by light exposure. This would cause lighter density on the page than you would expect, though I would have thought that part of the image on the page would be full density (as part of the drum would have been sheilded by the cartridge body - that part effectively being inside it).

Its also possible that the drum was a duff new one, (or not replaced) when the cartridge was remanufactured.

An original drum in these cartridges is a purple colour, aftermarket drums are blue, green, or blue-green.

The only conclusive way of checking the drum is by substitution unfortunatly.

It might still be worth having a word with your supplier (accepting that they don't have to do anything for you), they may value their reputation, and have enough faith in the quality of their product to want to know what has gone wrong n this case.

switch off the printer then switch on again whilst holding the UP and DOWN menu scroll buttons simultaneously.

Then you can go to a TEST PRINT area and print off pages of idividual colour.

If the streaks appear on ALL prints its likely to be the laser unit. If the streaks only print on the COLOUR sheets ( not BLACK) then the problem lies with the drum or the transfer belt.

Remove the drum and turn it manually with the gog at the side and give it a clean with a soft LINT FREE cloth, do the same for the transfer belt and then you may have to run a few test prints to get it all reprimed but you should be OK.
