How to fix a flush valve

  • Most toilet tank troubles can be traced to a faulty flush valve. You have three choices in correcting this common problem: (1) repair the old flush valve; (2) replace the flush ball with a more modern flapper or install a glued-in replacement flapper; (3) or install a new flush valve.

  • These repairs require a varying amount of work. The more simple adjustments were discussed previously.

  • Examine the old flush ball or flapper. If it is aged or encrusted with deposits, replace it with a new one. Scale deposits on the seat can be removed with steel wool or with No. 500 wet-or-dry abrasive paper. But if the valve still leaks, it must be replaced.

  • You can install a new guide arm, if necessary. To remove the lift wire from a flush ball, turn it counterclockwise with pliers. If you are replacing all parts, simply cut off the old lift wire.

  • Flapper. To replace a flapper, disconnect the lift hardware from the trip arm and slide the flapper up and off the overflow pipe. Install the new unit, reversing directions, and connect the lift hardware back to the trip arm. Any excess lift chain can be cut off or left dangling, if it doesn't interfere with toilet operation.

  • A loose trip handle can be fixed by tightening. The nut has left-hand threads, and must be turned counterclockwise to tighten (looking from inside the tank). Or, you can install a replacement trip handle.

  • Glue-in repair kit. Many replacement flush valves simply glue in place on top of the old valve seat. While several brands are available, not every type of flush can be replaced by these devices.

  • On single-piece toilet tanks–with a flush valve held in place with flanges that fit inside the opening–the flapper-ball may bind and prevent a leak-proof seal. On more common two-piece toilets, this problem does not occur.

  • Using a glue-in repair kit is quick and easy, but you must follow the manufacturer's instructions. To be sure you purchase the right kind of repair kit, take a rough drawing of the bottom of your toilet tank and flush valve to your hardware or home center store.

I can't seem to keep the chain on the bar it will only stay on less than a minuet

Hi J:
Not only can this be frustrating, it can be dangerous.
Here are a some of things to consider:
- First, review what happened immediately before the problem became apparent. If the chain and bar had been off the saw, were the guide plates installed properly? They should have the tapered edge located so the chain is directed to the center of the drive sprocket.
- Check the inner side of the chain for damage to the "fin" or tab that slides in the groove in the bar. Sometimes these can get twisted or bent. They are soft steel so can be easily damaged. Repair or replace chain as necessary.
- Chain tension. With the chain installed and the bar retaining nuts just barely snug, Lift the tip of the bar, and with it in that position, adjust the chain tension so that the centre of the top of the chain will lift, but not clear, the slot in the bar. Tighten the nuts while holding the bar in the raised position.
* This should have you cutting like a good thing.
Cheers.

My garage door has started to chug and struggle to lift itself. This morning there was also a noisy grinding sound as well. Could this simply be a lubricated chain problem? <a href='http://www.

It could be a many things. You could have damaged rollers, broken spring, cable off the drum (or not properly aligned on the drum), damaged gear kit, damaged or broken chain, center style could be damaged, bad end or center bearing. Need more details to be more detailed on the answer.

Since lift kit install front brakes grabbing 08 titan 2wd

Did your lift kit come with new extended brake lines?
You mentioned the brakes feel like they are "on" and you can't pump up your pedal anymore. That makes me think that like most lift kits, nothing is provided to re-locate the rear rubber brake line that is mounted to the top of the rear differential. It may be stretched so far that it's kinked on both ends allowing fluid to the rear brakes thru hydraulic pressure but not being allowed to release on it's own. Just a thought. Good Luck!

What kind of a lift kit can I bolt on my self for my 1996 ford exploer

The easiest lift kit is the body lift kit. You install rubber bushings between the body and the frame. Some trimming of the fan shroud and adjusting the steering shaft. A good kit will have in instructions.

Chewing up Chain Drive

There is most likely a problem with the balance of the door. Release the door from the opener by pulling the red handle and lift the door manually. You should not have to apply more than 20lbs to lift it. When the door is at each hinge point and all the way up, it should stay by itsself. If it does not, the springs need to be adjusted or you will continue to replace gears.

Lift kit for a '95 2wd dodge dakota

I am pretty sure that there is a lift kit available for a 95 dakota. There are a few ways to lift the body of the vehicle. I know a few people who have done it with hockey pucks. Drill holes through the center of the hockey pucks and place them in the body mounts. However, if you want buy a real lift kit, there are several sites that sell lift kits. I recently put a 9" suspension lift on a 1977 F-150. Most companys that make the kits offer more for newer vehicles.
I am not sure if I am allowed to post other websites, however, I did search for a lift for a 95 dakota and found one right away. There are three types of lifts that you can do. One is very limited but you can get the truck taller by putting bigger tires on it. Doing this will give you less clearance between the top of the tire and the fender well. There are also body lifts and suspension lifts. Body lifts are less expensive as there are less components to install. Suspension lifts are much more expensive but it is what I would reccomend for a larger lift. For a couple inches I would go with the body lift. For anything over 2 to 3 inches I would reccomend a suspension lift. If you can find a body lift kit for a 95 dakota 4x4, then you can use it on a 2 wheel drive as well.
