SOURCE: external drive wont mount
Try doing flea power & the power cycle.
1. Disconnect all the peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner & monitor and power supply from the CPU.
And press & hold the power button for 2 min, it will release the flea power from the mother board.
Restart the system & check.
2. Disconnect everything.wait for 5-10 minutes and then connect every thing.
Restart the system.
If it does not resolve the issue then you can try this :
Check this before you try to edit the registry values.
Just remove the registry key it happen when this key is corrupted.
And delete all references to the external hard drive.
And also HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB
and found the keys associated with the USB to IDE value.
After restarting the system, the drive shold be detected & configured automatically by the computer.

This is really not a solution, but you should all try to connect your iomega to a imac, and use the Disk Utility (in Utilities folder), if you have any luck the hard drive will be recognized and you will be able to format it

ok I have had probs like this before. try plugging it in to different usb ports. also try another cable is it usb? or fire wire? I have had issues with several items doing the same thing I just try different cables and different ports and keep un plugging and plugging it back in. usually either a dif port os cable solves the issue. also try connecting it to another pc and see if u can access it. If you can access it from aonther pc that you have in your home or access to all the time I can tell u how to have it hooked to that pc but be able to access it from the origional pc that you had it hooked to.

Testimonial: "I will try some of these suggestions. I've already tried hooking it up to a PC at work (unrecognized completely) and a mac powerbook - won't mount."
From what I can deduce here, it seems that you the hard drive probably has a bad sector on it.
That clicking sound that you are hearing from the Hard Drive is coming from the read/write head inside the hard drive.
In this case, what I would advise you to do is, unscrew the hard drive case and remove the Hard disk from the case, connect it directly to a system, not externally or through USB this time around, then get a software called NTFS DOS Professional. It is a software that works like magic when it comes to hard drive repairs.
If you know any other hard drive utility, apart from this, you can also use it. I just recommend this personally because that is what I use.
Insert it into your PC, start up your CD-ROM and let your system boot from CD-ROM.
It works through DOS, and it should be able to help you with it.
If this does not solve the problem, then I'm afraid you might need to replace the hard drive.
And if it repairs it, I would suggest that you just retrieve all your valuable files from it and don't fully rely on the hard drive again because of the hardware error it has developed. Just keep using it as a second.
If you cannot do this by yourself, just get a very good technician to do it for you instead.
Kindly keep me posted about the problem.
Hope it helps.
