Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router
I have a WRT54Gv2.2 wireless router. Recently I became unable to send email from my PC on all three of my Outlook 2010 email accounts. I can receive in Outlook with no problem but cannot send. I also have 3 Apple devices, iPhone, iPad and MacBook that connect on the same wireless router and can send email just fine using the Apple email utility. Any suggestions?
I doubt the router has anything to do with the problem. most likely culprit is a pop server (handles incomming email). check with your email provider to see if they changed servers...
have you made any changes to your router or firewall? i guess it could be a port that got closed that your email was using

Make sure you are plugging the SMC into the WAN port on the Linksys router and not the LAN ports. Your internet connection (which is your SMC) should always plug into your WAN port on the Linksys. Any computers that you may need to plug in, like Desktops that are "wired" and not "wireless", should plug into the LAN ports on the Linksys. If you are not using the WAN port on the Linksys for your SMC modem, then that would explain why you cannot get to the internet on wireless or wired computers.
Here's why you are getting the "low connectivity" message:
Computers don't understand why the Internet is connecting or not connecting...so the "low connectivity" message you keep receiving has nothing to do with your wireless signal strength. To a computer NIC, "low connectivity" means your network adapter could not find a DHCP server and receive a valid IP address. When this happens, your network adapter assigns an IP address to your computer in the following range...169.254.0.0, and will display the "low connectivity" message until it is able to receive a valid private IP address from the DHCP server. You can verify this by going to START | RUN and typing "cmd" (without the quotes), then hit ENTER. A black box will pop up....then type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) and hit ENTER. This will show you your IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address, and you can verify that your IP address is in the 169.254.0.0 range. A valid private IP address is typically in the 192.168.0.0 range, but could also be in the 10.0.0.0 range, or the 172.16.31.0 range. Also, make sure you have DHCP server enabled on the Linksys router for the LAN. This will ensure your "wired" and "wireless" computers receive a valid IP address.
The WAN port on your Linksys router should be configured to "Obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP".

Is there any computer connected to the router ?
If not then connect the computer to the router. If you are connecting a wireless computer then disable the wireless connection on the computer. open the set up page of the router. change the wireless network name to something different that you never used before. change the standard channel to 11. save the settings. Try to connect to the wireless network. Check if you see the new network name ? If you see the new then try t connect and see if that works.
This router WRT160N has issues with the firmware.
Upgrade the firmware of the router. power cycle the router.

I had an iPAD and it worked right off with my wrt54GS, so I'm not exactly sure what the solution is, but you can try this.
-iPAD is looking for 802.11 "N" network and your router is A/B/G compatible only.
-Change your iPAD network settings to accept 802.11A/B/G or at least 802/11G WiFi signals.
-router is set to only use 802.11A/B vs using multi-band B/G or even G only. NOTE: your router does not broadcast 802.11N signals so you must find a common wireless band to broadcast at. In this case 802.11G should work fine.
Assuming it's been previously set up (as stated) and you did not change most of the default settings on your router, aside from the password and security stuff...do the following via internet explorer or your preferred web browser:
-type 192.168.1.1 (or your routers IP) in your address bar to bring up the routers user interface
-Default user name is "admin" and password is "admin". You may be able to leave the user name blank and just type in the password section to access the router user interface. Again, you must know your password to access the router. NOTE...If "admin" worked, you better change that while you're in there.
-Once you're in, find the tab that sets the broadcasting protocol and make sure it's set to multi band 802.11A/B/G. IF, you're sure everything on your network is at least G speed, than set it as G only. A/B are old protocols and for the most part are not that heavily used. If you can go with at least G only speeds, than do it.
-Try and find your router again
I'm sure the iPAD works on wireless G networks, so that's why I say G will work.
Be sure to PRINT your settings and tape them to the bottom of the router so you don't forget, otherwise you'll have to reset the router and do it all again when you need to add something to the network.
