Why does my phone say no line?

That means that it is not connected to the wiring that has voice data on it. IT cannot detect the voltage that should be there. Check the wires to the plug in to the phone jack.

No dial tone at any jack. (12 total, 11 are home runs, one is and extension from a jack box) Disconnected each phone, problem still present. Have a dial tone at the NID. Tested each jack with the...

You can use an ohm meter or a continuity meter to test the wiring but the regular phone will work ok. The next step is to disconnect all the internal house wiring from the NID and then replace them one at a time. After you replace a wire test all the jacks to see if the dialtone is on a jack. When you connect the bad wire/jack it will short out the jacks that were working on the previous tests. Then leave the faulty wire/jack disconnected from the NID and reconnect the remaining wires. The jack thats not working is the faulty wire.

Jack on guitar looks like a wire broke off. One blue wire still connected. No loose wires floating around! Should there be 2 wires connected to the jack itself? Which two?

There should be two wires connected. One goes to the jack tip while the other goes to ground. One lug on the jack is connected to the part touching the sleeve on your cable while the other will contact you cable's tip. There is another wire in there somewhere.

Phone will not work. you dial and get a busy signal or it goes back to the dial tone.

Try taking the cover off of your phone jack and reversing the two wires that are running to the actual jack that your phone line plugs into. There is very little voltage, so you have little worry of any kind of shock. Reversing these wires should fix your problem. Hope this proves to be of use. Have a great morning!

Home telephone wiring

Your wiring could be a mess of splicing, jumpers, additions over the years. It's impossible to know (or to really be able to help you) without being there in person.

Typically, you just have to worry about the red and green wires. The black and yellow are for a second line. This is of course only if you have standard 2 pair wiring.

If any work has been done recently I would concentrate on that area. If just one jack is removed or a wire cut by mistake that could easily take out your entire house. Also, if the red and green wires are touching anywhere that would also cause a problem.

Telephone wall jack

Did the old wall jack work before you removed it?
Are the wires still connected or do you remember where the wires used to go.
If so, then what I would do, is with a phone connected, start disconnecting 1 wire at a time. When the line goes dead, then you know that is one of the wires that you need to use. Reconnect that wire, and mark it, and Keep doing this until you find the other wire that makes the line go dead.
Then you will know which 2 wires you will need to get the jack working.
Usually, the standard color wires that you need for the new jack is Red and Green for a single line phone jack.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
