Voltage on nuetral leg, dimmer not working

Can a failed module put voltage on the nuetral leg? Also, how to determine if it's the dimmer or module that's bad?

Interior Lamps Dimming
The second group includes lamps which may be dimmed. This group may use a combination of vacuum fluorescent (VF) illumination and incandescent lamps.
• Power window switches
• HVAC control head assembly
• Radio
• The instrument panel cluster (IPC)
When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the vacuum fluorescent (VF) display (radio) turns on at maximum brightness. When the park lamps are ON all incandescent back lighting turn ON at the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. At the same time all vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays dim to match the indicated dimming level. When the headlamp switch is placed in the PARK position, the park lamp supply voltage circuit provides an input to the body control module (BCM). The BCM then supplies voltage to the instrument panel dimmer switch through the instrument panel dimming lamps control circuit. The setting of the instrument panel dimmer switch determines the amount of voltage that the instrument panel dimmer switch supplies to the BCM through the instrument panel dimming lamps low reference circuit. The BCM then sends a pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage to all the interior lamps. All the vacuum florescent (VF) and incandescent back lighting lamps are provided a specific voltage and are then grounded. When the headlight switch is turned to the PARK or HEADLAMP position, all incandescent back lighting turn on at the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. When the IP dimmer switch is moved from MIN to MAX, all vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays, as well as all incandescent back lighting respond from Minimum intensity to maximum brightness in response to the IP dimmer switch.

I would have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the BCM !
DTC B2624 Display Dimming Input Range/Performance
The body control module (BCM) supplies voltage to the instrument panel dimmer switch through the instrument panel dimmer switch signal circuit. The dimmer switch varies the voltage and returns the new voltage to the BCM through the dimmer switch signal return circuit. The BCM uses this voltage to determine the illumination level of the instrument panel lamps.

DTC B2625 Display Dimming Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Output Circuit Range/Performance
The body control module (BCM) receives a variable voltage from the instrument panel (I/P) lamp dimmer switch. The BCM uses this signal in order to vary the illumination level of the I/P lamps. The I/P dimming lamps output from the BCM is a pulse width modulated voltage supply used to light the I/P lamps. If a malfunction occurs in the I/P dimming lamps output circuit, this DTC is set.

DTC B2662 Park Lamp Switch Circuit Malfunction
The park lamps are controlled by the turn/headlamp switch. Positive battery voltage is supplied to the switch through the EXT LP fuse. When the turn/headlamp switch is placed in the park or head position, battery voltage is supplied to the park lamps. The body control module (BCM) is also connected to the park lamp circuit to sense whether or not the park lamps turn ON when the low beam or high beam headlamps are turned ON. The BCM also uses the parklamp battery positive voltage to power the instrument panel (I/P) dimmer output circuit. If the BCM senses that the low beam or high beam headlamps are ON and the park lamp input is not active, DTC B2662 sets.

Starter switch ? You do mean ignition switch , the thing on the dash or steering column that you stick the key in ! You car not starting ? The ignition switch isn't the same anymore , sends Discrete Ignition Signals to a module ,in the case of your vehicle it is the DIM - dash integrated module.
The body control system consists of the following 3 modules:

Each of the 3 body control modules integrate a number of functional systems under the control of a single module. Each of the modules are connected to the Class 2 serial data line; many control signals are implemented by Class 2 messages.
On vehicles that have several control modules connected by serial data circuits, one module is the power mode master (PMM). On this vehicle the PMM is the DIM. The PMM receives 4 signals from the ignition switch.
To determine the correct power mode the PMM uses the following circuits:

Your best bet would be to take to a repair shop that has knowledge of this type system . You probably don't need an ignition switch.

Ignition switch ? Key an lock cylinder or the electrical part ? The vehicle keeps running or you can't turn key to off ! Different thing's come into play depending on which is your problem ! If vehicle doesn't shut off (keeps running ) You need to know how it works !
An ignition switch isn't the same as back in the old days , it's a low voltage input to the BCM .
Serial Data Power Mode
On vehicles that have several control modules connected by serial data circuits, one module is the Power Mode Master, PMM. On this vehicle the PMM is the BCM. The PMM receives 3 discreet ignition switch signals to differentiate which power mode will be sent over the Class 2 Serial Data circuit.
To determine the correct power mode the PMM uses the following circuits:

If the engine run flag serial data is True, indicating that the engine is running, the modules fail-safe to RUN. In this state the modules and their subsystems can support all operator requirements. If the engine run flag serial data is False, indicating that the engine is not running, the modules fail-safe to OFF-AWAKE. In this state the modules are constantly checking for a change status message on the serial data circuits and can respond to both local inputs and serial data inputs from other modules on the vehicle.

What caused low beam to fail suddenly?


As far as voltage, check the low beam fuse. Not only check the fuse, use a testlite and check voltage on the fuse circuit. With headlamp switch on and dimmer switch on low beam. See the relay that says headlamp driver module, that is for low beam.

Dashboard lights will go out randomly. It has done it for short periods before but it did it for 200 miles on hwy in dark.


The sensor is usually located on the top of your dashboard. You might see it if you look into your vehicle through your windshield at your dash.
I have seen( one time ) that a gps was bright enough that it caused the dash lights not to come on because the sensor thought it was light outside.
Or you could have gotten a bad sensor.

HXC1D-1TW not working


The module if failed is either open circuit or short circuit. Being that it is a semiconductor you can test each leg for one or the other. If you had the numbers written on the component we could have checked a cross reference book for the type of semiconductor. It may be a mosfet (metal oxide semi-conductor field effect transistor). How to test a mosfet youtube video The rest of your dimmer is a variable resister or potentiometer or rheostat. You can test that for a failure with a multimeter in the ohms setting, though it is less likely to fail that the mosfet.

Could have connection issues at the BCM - body control module , lose ground . The BCM controls all the thing's your have problems with .
Turn Signal Lamps
When the turn signal switch is place in either the right or left turn position, the turn/hazard request circuit is pulled low, through a resistor. The body control module (BCM) uses the resistors to determine if the left or right turn signals have been requested. The BCM then supplies an ON-OFF voltage to the turn signal lamps and turn signal indicator on the selected side of the vehicle. The turn signals receive a ground at G101, G401, or G403.

When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the vacuum fluorescent (VF) display (radio) turns on at maximum brightness. When the park lamps are ON all incandescent back lighting turn ON at the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. At the same time all vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays dim to match the indicated dimming level. Engine Coolant Indicator(s)
LOW COOLANT LEVEL
The IPC illuminates the low coolant warning indicator when any of the following occur:
• The BCM detects a low coolant level condition for at least 30 seconds. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the BCM requesting illumination.
• The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds .

The thing to do first would be to hook up a factory or professional type scan tool an check for Instrument cluster or BCM DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Then checking connection 's at the BCM , testing power an grounds .

For others finding this thread: Many people want double throw switch for 240V, thinking they have to turn off both hot legs of 240V circuit.
240v can be turned off by cutting power to one hot leg.

Instrument panel lights do not come on.


Soldering the new bulbs in may have done something to the LH DIMMER MODULE ! The 10amp INT LPS fuse located in the I/P fuse box is good ? Is the dimmer switch at full bright ?
When the park lamps are on, battery positive voltage (B+) is supplied through the instrument panel (IP) fuse block INT LPS fuse via CKT 32 (YEL) to the dimming switch. The dimming switch supplies a variably controlled voltage to the dimmer module(s). The potentiometer in the panel dimming control cannot provide enough current in order to operate the panel lamps. The dimmer module(s) amplifies the current, supplying the variable voltage to the panel lights. As the amount of the current increases, the lamps become brighter. As the amount of the current decreases, the lamps become dimmer.
Buick
There is only 1 dimmer module that supplies current to the panel lights. The left dimmer module supplies current via CKT 8 (GRY) to the following components:
• The headlamp switch
• The door switch flood lamps
• The heater and A/C control
• The door handle flood lamps
• The passenger temperature control
• The ashtray lamp
• The shift select switch lamp
• The instrument cluster
• The steering wheel controls
• The reset switch
• The trip odometer
• The radio
Parade Dimming
The parade dimming feature prevents the dimming of the VF displays when daylight is sensed by the lamp control module (LCM) and the park lamps are turned on manually. If the LCM senses night time conditions and the park lamps are on, the LCM allows the VF displays to be dimmed.
All of the modules with the VF displays receive the dimming level from an input on CKT 8 (GRY) or CKT 1244 (BRN). When the LCM determines that the above conditions are met, the LCM sends a signal to the instrument cluster and the radio via CKT 390 (YEL). For Buick, the radio then relays this information to the heater and A/C programmer and passenger temperature control via CKT 724 (PPL/WHT). The modules with the VF displays then adjust the dimming level of their VF displays to match the level of the incandescent lights.

If you are wiring a Taylor machine to three phase power and you have a "wild leg" or "high leg" you must place the high voltage leg on L3. This will keep the higher voltage out of the control circuits of the machine. To clarify what a high leg is, it is created in three phase applications where a certain type of transformer is used. It creates two normal power legs, 110-120 and one leg that is only useful with another leg of power. If measured to nuetral or ground a wild leg will measure considerebly higher than the other legs.
