Question about Computers & Internet
This is a relatively new hard drive. I was transferring files from other portable drives. Without anything (to my knowledge) leading up to it, the files all disappeared and replaced themselves with a single 'Untitled' folder containing nothing. The info says that I have 3.29TB available of 4TB so the data must have hidden itself somehow. What could be done to attempt retrieval? Thanks in advance.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

If the disk is FULL then you have used all the space, this is not uaually a fault but you may need to look at the data on there and delete any old stuff you dont need. IF you need it all then you should buy a larger capacity drive.
use "my computer" to see the drives connected to your PC. The lacie should be easily identified by it's name. Double click on the drive and you can explore the files/folders.

use a long bladed kitchen knife to get carefully spread apart the sides from the bottom plate. there are 4 small tabs along each side of the case going int 4 slots on the bottom plate. The long sharp blade inserts easily between the side and bottom plate.
Carefully pry the side away from the bottom plate starting from the front working towards the back. You gently twist the blade to get the tabs out of the slots. the first one is the hardest. After that they pop out easy.
to remove the hard drive mechanism, once you have the bottom plate off, remove the four silver screws--two along each side--then use the knife to separate the sides of the hard drive from the case, so that the front of the drive is angled up (you'll also have to pull the activity LED loose from its hotmelt glue), then slide the drive out of its metal mounting bracket--you won't be able to pull the drive out along with this bracket.

Does your drive make any unusual sounds like any of these: http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php ?
If yes then you got a problem - it's something mechanical with the heads and it's not something you can fix by yourself.
If it sounds normal or doesn't spin up at all - try to connect it to another computer and if still no go - remove the internal drive from enclosure and connect directly to PC via SATA port.

I have a Western External Hard Drive 320 and when I plug it in the computer will recognize it and allow me to access my files but after a short while if I go to click on a file t open it the WD 320 will click off for a minute and then reappear in the auto run mode.
