Question about Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Laptop
Laptop was frozen, so I pressed the off button until it went off and when I turned it back on, it never went to the screen asking if you wanted to start in safe mode etc... It just sits there with a blank screen and the caps lock button is flashing
Open the ram memory cover and remove the memories module a d clean the contact wire with soft cotto. Cloth an re-insert and start the computer. Maybe it helps

Testimonial: "I tried this, but no such luck. I have found out that the one blink on the caps lock means a bad CPU problem. Think I am in trouble."
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Try removing the battery and all pwer from the computer. This will kill the hibernation process. Put the battery back in, with outlet power if you desire. Then try to start the laptop in safe mode. (Everything will be very big) Go to the start menu, accessories, system tools, and stystem restore. Go through the process of restoring the computer any time before you tried installing the update! Then it will automatically restart in normal mode and you should have your old internet explorer back and it SHOULD start up normally! Hope this helps! :)

This is a first step, a bit of magic that frequently works.
Try a Hard Reset according to HP's instructions at

Open the Notebook from the back side and locate the RAM. Now remove the RAM and place it again and check, you can even try inserting the RAM in different slot if any used slot is available.

SOURCE: when i press the power
I believe blinking lights on the Caps and NumLock means that there is a problem about the Hardware, I've been a Tech Support for HP and those blinking lights are problems for Video Card, CPU, Memory.
It would be better if you call the manufacturer try if they can service your machine.
Hope it helps. =)
