Question about Hotpoint HSS25GFP Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Have a hotpoint CSX22GRSA side by side refridgerator freezer with ice maker and ice keeps forming and stopping the fan. What could be causing this?

It has been doing this every now and then for awhile now, but I always just cleaned all the ice off and it worked fine. This time I did that and it iced back up again and stopped the fan. The ice it was making before it did it this time were smaller and some were hollow. Please help me figure this out. Thank you

No offense but I would like to thank all the helpful suggestions I got; "not". I finally figured it out without anyones help from this site. Also it cost me an extra $50 because of the one suggestion I got from someone elses problem in 2009. Just to be helpful to someone like me in the future my problem was caused by the fill tube for the ice maker.

I don't think it is defrosting properly, possible defrost element failure, the ice being produced is smaller because of this.

SOURCE: Our Hotpoint side by side refridgerator, the ice/water not workin

It sounds like you have a failing relay/valve that wont stay open when current is passed through them, check there first otherwise your control board could have water/heat damage remove inspect and if necessary replace let me know how it goes :)

My Refridgerator/freezer is not working

Sounds as if the compressor is not running even tho the fans are. The overload relays on the side of the compressor are usually the source of this problem. They are on the side of the compressor and if you change these out you should be fine. Fairly easy to do as it should just be a plug connecting it. Hope this helps.

WAS IT LEAKING FROM INSIDE THE FREEZER OR FROM BOTTOM OF FRIDGE? ONCE IN A WHILE YOU NEED TO TAKE OUT THE ICE BIN AND DUMP ICE OUT AND CLEAN IT. HOW CAN THE ICE MACHINE OVERFLOW WITH ICE WHEN THE ICE IN THE TRAY WON'T BUDGE? NEED CLARIFICATION. SOUNDS LIKE YOU EITHER HAVE A BAD ICE MAKER MODULE OR THE SOLENOID FOR THE ICE ON THE WATER VALVE IS BAD.

Refridgerator not cooling

is it side by side or freezer on top/bottom...check to see if the fan inside the freezer is running when the compressor is running..also check to see if ice is covering the evaporator coils.. the freezing should be even with a thin layer of ice/ not partically melted..sometimes the ice forms in the vents and stops the air flow...to review...check and see if fan is working in freezer
check to see if vents are clogged......good luck!!

GE Monogram refrigerator/freezer problem/ice dam in ice maker

I have had the same problem with ice forming. I found the problem is from the ice maker. The water fill tube delivers water to a plastic piece that acts like a funnel. The water goes through this plastic piece into the ice maker. Ice forms in the plastic funnel piece causing the water to overflow into the ice bin and freezer.

GE SIDE BY SIDE/MODEL #GSS25JMDCC

I also had a loud fan and it was caused by ice build-up on the fan in the back of the freezer. From inside the freezer, I removed the plastic grill that covers the fan (I think I also had to remove the side rails and ice maker) then just let the fan defrost in the sink. Made sure it was nice and dry before putting it back in or else ice would just form again. I also took a sheet of plastic and put it between the ice maker and fan grill to stop water from dripping onto the fan and haven't had a noisy fan since. I just need to remove the ice build-up from on top of the plastic sheet every now and then, but that's much easy than taking everything apart to get to the fan.

theres ice in the fan propelar, if you see no ice blocking the propellers its the fan motor itself,if you unplug the fridge and stick something thin between the vents where you feel the air blowing thru and try turning the fan, gently and it spins smooth its the fan motor,if you dont wish to do this turn freezer off, open the door and let it defrost, then plug it in if buzz still there its the fan motor
