Question about Saeco Aroma Espresso Machine

Open Question

Suddenly can't get coffee (or water) to come out of my Saeco Aroma porta filter.

Started failing two days ago, same grind as always. Tried descaling, didn't help. Running water through a basket, will sometimes clear it after a popping sound. Is the porta filter repairable?

In case you hadn't solved your problem and still have the machine (sorry, I don't come here often and there is no email announcement system here), here's what is likely wrong, in order of probability: 1) The basket is clogged up. Take the basket out and make sure you can see through the holes. It may be clogged up. Use a stainless steel wire brush and ammonia household cleaner. Very effective! 2) The portafilter valve mechanism is gunked up. Fill the basket with household ammonia cleaner, get the machine hot then run the pump, a few seconds at a time. It should clean all the 'tar' off the valve and mechanism and get the flow going again. You can repeat the process, it doesn't harm the innards. Rinse well after this, otherwise your coffee is going to taste awful ;) 3) The portafilter mechanism may be worn out, burned or otherwise defective. it's quite delicate and there are small springs that can fly apart especially the feather spring so it's best to have Saeco replace it for you, but if you're handy it's fairly simple to do. Last time I did mine it cost me something like $20 of parts. 4) The head outlet valve could have cooked onto the outlet, but it usually leaks instead. It can be hard to remove it, but the parts are inexpensive (a small mushroom shaped silicone and a spring) 5) The pump may have failed. If your machine is old, it could well be that your pomp has gone weak, in which case it would have to be replaced. When it's time for a new pump you got to ask yourself if it's worth replacing it, or getting a new machine, as the part is expensive, it's time consuming and by the time it fails, other parts have also gotten old. I have such a machine I keep for parts. If you find typos... the Comment system here is horrible, can only see one line at a time. Sorry!

I think you have to replace the gasket in the machine where the portafiller fits on the machine.

Make sure your filter is clean before you replace any gasket.

SOURCE: Steam nozzle leaking

Hi! hope i'm not too late, since this leaking problem occur's quite often, specially when one's tends to overtight the valve, the proposed solutios will certainly help thousand of happy Saeco owners.
Anyway i happened to live with it but after a second valve replacement, i got fed up with filling too often the reservoir and fixed it at Zero cost. What i did is realy easy:
1- Find a bearing the size of the plunger of the needle valve; the thiny steel ball in a nail polish bottle is what i used.
2- When the electric cord is pulled off the wall outlet, take the cover off, reach to the snap locker and pull it off.
3- Unscrew the needle valve plunger off the cylinder, grind or file the
tip 3/16 of an inch, making sure it is at rite angle cut.
4- Insert the ball in the valve body and push it with the flattened tip
over the vapor down stream and screw. You now have a new valve that will outlast your coffe maker.

Try descaling the machine. If there is no water getting to the brew unit then it might be blocked, if you checked the brew unit then the blockage might be at the boiler or one of the lines.

Has the size of you ground coffee changed? If it is not the size of granulated sugar then its your grinder. Check ebay completed listings. Saw one there couple weeks ago.

Its not the water. More than likley its the lever on the right side of the machine at the top middle of the door. Its pushed all the way to the back or positive. Move it 1 mark towards the front of the machine and try again. If you put too much coffee in the brew unit, it can't compress it and kicks it out. It could also be your grind is too coarse. It should look like auto drip coffee.

Grinds coffee but no water comes thru dumps dry grounds into hopper then stops. A couple of times it has worked ok but then goes back to the same problem. Ahhhhh I need my coffee

Sounds like the grinder is grinding too much coffee than the brew unit can handle. Otherwords itis overloading the brewunit. Try reduce the aroma in the coffee menu to mild.

Saeco Aroma now only produce bitter coffee...

besides a good coffee machine, 2 things are critical when you want a good cup of coffee; the coffee itself and the water. When in France, i tasted some of the best coffee I have ever had, but they always told me that the quality and purity of the water made for 50% of that great taste. Has your municipality changed anything about the water treatment recently? Do you drink that same water and find it tastes funny? Perhaps bottled water is a solution in your case. Hoping this helps.

Saeco Incanto not grinding

Hi Chris,

The leaking is your steam valve that has to be replaced, you can see this if you open the door and look up in the right corner there you will see water drip.

If not then you have a pipe or boiler leak.

How old is your machine?
How often do you descale the machine?

When you try to make a cup of coffee, starts the grinder for two seconds or is it dead?

Hope this will help you.

My saeco aroma gets blocked.Sometimes he water will come out and other times it won't.

Had this problem. Fixed it by taking off the O ring at the bottom of the porta filter and turning the bottom plate under the water stream. Doing that every 3 - 4 day will certainly help.
