It must be formatted to FAT32 or ExFAT format. TV cannot read NTFS format.

Is your hard drive power-up?
Do you hear your hard drive just spinning?

If so, your PCB may went bad. If you hear the hard drive clicking then your PCB or the heads went bad. If you need the data, you might have to ask the data recovery guys to get them back for you or find the PCB on Ebay.

If you don't care about your data, send it back for the warranty replacement

SOURCE: external hard drive problem NEED HELP

Is this a new external with no data on it? If it is, it may need to be formatted.Go to disk management to see if the drive is there. It may need to be initialize first before you can formatted. If it has not been initialized, a message will pop up for you to initialized it. Once it is done, formatted--This should be done only if don't have any data on it.

Good luck

SOURCE: How to retrieve data from an external hard disk?

If your hard drive is under warranty, Western Digital will do this for you. You can find more information on their web site.

If not, you'll need to either put the hard drive in your computer (given that it also supports Serial ATA hard drives), or purchase a SATA Drive Enclosure to put your hard drive in.

As far as I know, Western Digital cases are snap-close cases, which may result in unrepairable damage to the case if you open it. The hard drive inside is usually a standard SATA drive so you should have no trouble plugging it into your computer/drive enclosure.

Best of luck.

this will not work by it self you will either need to buy a computer with media software that will support your hard drive or a DVR that will support you hard drive.
the hard drive connected to the device you have tried to connect to are not smart devices they will not support a stand alone external drive even though there is a usb port.

Buy a new "empty" external disk-drive case for $30.

Pick one that has "data" and "power" connectors that are compatible with your current disk-drive.

Put the disk-drive into the new case. Done.

Does the Toshiba appear to bootup and the hard disk LED is flashing?
Can you see a dim image when you view the LCD screen at a sharp angle?
Connect an external monitor to the external video port and power up the external monitor first and then the Toshiba, if you get a nornal image on the external monitor the the video card is OK and the fault is the LCD screen. The problem could be the CCFL lamp or the inverter.
Get back to me with the result of these test and I can advise what to do next..

Led lights up no display. perfect thru vga Toshiba A15-S127

If you can get a display through an external monitor but your LCD display won't show anything, you have one of two conditions:
You have hit the Fn and special function key that toggles the display to go to the external monitor. In that case, hit that key combination again to see if you can toggle the display back to your laptop.
The other thing would be an LCD display that has gone bad. You can rule out the video card, as it will put video out to the external port.

Garbage video on display on boot up

Sounds like your notebook video card is bad. It drives both the LCD panel and external displays. You'll need to replace it.

No LCD Display, No External Monitor display

If you just replaced the systemboard, the video chip is not likely to be the problem. I would say to check the cable connections and the actual lcd, but you said that the external monitor is not working either and that is not dependent upon the cable or lcd. I would say that your systemboard is probably DOA, but just to be sure do you have another laptop to test it on?

Connecting Toshiba Lap Top to NEC LCD TV

From user manual (page 68):
Your computer comes with a built-in display panel, but you can also
connect an external display device to an available video port, as
❖ An external monitor or projector via the RGB (monitor) port
❖ A TV, VCR, or DVD recorder via the S-video (TV-out) port
Before connecting an external monitor or video projector, configure
your computer for the type of device you are connecting. To do this,
refer to the documentation for your operating system and devices

So you have to use an RGB cable or a S-video cable : your cable should be plugged into 15 pin VGA port in your PC and plug it into a correspondent port in your TV.
Try also S- video and select correponding input in your TV set (Both connection type DO NOT carry sound: use your audio connector from PC to TV audio input.)
Configure your extended screen using your manual instruction:
Once you have connected an external display device, you can
choose to use the internal display only, the external device only, or
both simultaneously. The quickest way to change the display output
settings is to use the display hot key (Fn + F5):
1 Press Fn and F5 simultaneously.
2 While holding down Fn, press F5 repeatedly until the setting
you want takes effect. Briefly pause each time you press the F5
key to allow time for the display to change.
This hot key cycles through the settings in the following order:
❖ Built-in display only
❖ Built-in display and external monitor simultaneously
❖ External monitor only
❖ Built-in display and TV
❖ TV only
