The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze

It appears your thermostat has failed in this instance.
For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...
FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.
PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.
If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.
If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

This is a common problem. The situation you mentioned is highly suggestive of faulty control board ( or call as motherboard ). You could try to unplug the refrigerator for few minutes, say 15 minutes and then turn it ON. If you do not see any improvement, it would confirm faulty control board and needs replacement.
However, there were few models in the past which had a reset option where you need to hold the power up and power freeze pads at the same time until their little lights come on then you press a small square button on the ice-maker then the compressor and fans start up.
Thanks and Regards

Please check this link for tips to work.
Switch off the fridge and after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
The circulation fan must be checked to work as if frost forms it can be stuck up . So check if the defrost timer works and also if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test from the outside and make your observations so that we come to the solution.
