Screen going black Sony KDF-E60A20

Projection bulb shuting down then coming back on sound also goes out same time too. Thought problem was not enough air flow due to a fan not working but fan was ok. Any help would be helpful.

My tv started turning the screen off, maybe once a week. Now all day long. It will work fine for a few hours then turn off..I get 5 blinks. I can turn it back on and it will work fine for a while and repeat the problem. Is this just an overheating issue?

I had the exact problem, where the tv lamp shuts off with the sound then comes back by it self after a minute or two. I removed the front cover and cleaned the insde both the buld and the fan and surrounding area. It works for a few days then the issue comes back. I don't see that much dust on the bulb mesh. I am going to try replacing the bulb. I hope this fixes the issue, because the service techs will charge me an arm and a leg.

    Cheers!

We noticed shortly after we purchased our TV that the screen seemed dark and we couldn't get it to lighten. We lived with it for about a year before the screen would go black and the sound would stop for a minute or two then come back for 20-30 seconds. We pulled the bulb to clean it, but it wasn't dusty. I've just ordered a new bulb.....hope it works.

Remove the lower front panel by removing the 2 large round screw heads at the lower back corners, one on each side. Remove the retaining screw on the right side of the metal horizontal retaining strip in front of the bulb holder, remove bulb retaining screw in the upper left corner of the bulb holder. Pull the bulb holder out towards you and check for dust build up on the top screen on the bulb casing, if there is an abundance of dust it will restrict the airflow across the face of the bulb which causes it to heat up and turn off. Once the dust has been cleaned your bulb should now work as it should without a problem.

It works!! First i took off the front panel. Just check your manual for instructions, very easy to do. If you do not have a manual just down load one from google.. The instruction are easy to follow. The screw they have you loosen with a alan wrench is attached to the plastic, so you do not have to worry about dropping it inside the tv. Removing the lamp was simple. once out you will notice on either side are two small mesh screens. One of mine was 80% blocked with dust, the other side was only 30-40% covered. I used a vacuum to remove the blockage, i did not want the dust and dirt to go inside the bulb. i then cleaned all around the lamp. Reinstalled, and we are go to go. The kids are happy and i am happier since my wife not be buying a new TV.
total cost of repair $.00
time required to fix, less than 15 minutes.

Also when my TV was loosing sound and picture and then return. I did turn off my TV, then turned on. I nothiced a red blinking light. Mine flashed 5 times. After some reserch, 5 times is video related, bulb or video board. google red flashing light with the model you have and you will find what all the codes mean.
So if yours is flashing 5 times try the above, it might work for you and it is well worth the time before you call a tech and drops hundreds of dollars.

hope this helps.

Just had this exact problem with my sony kdf-e60a20. Called tech out to the house to look at it. He replaced the bulb and problem was solved. Save yourself the $440.00 service call and replace the bulb yourself for $200.00. Tech explained it's the tv's way of protecting it self when bulb is going bad. Hope this helps.

Screen goes dark, sound goes quiet...

I have a sony KDF-E60A20 projection tv. The picture would go out for about 30 seconds and come back on. It would continue to cycle this way. The green power light would stay on and not flash. The sound would go off when the picture went out and come back on when the picture came back on. I tried taking the bottom cover off the back exposing the fan and blowed it out with a vacuum cleaner, also taking out the bulb and blowing it out. That didn't help. So I ordered a new bulb from Advancedlamps.com and that's what it was. I have now had it on and off for two days and no problems. Cost of lamp was $107.00 including shipping. Good Luck!

I have a Sony TV KDF-E60a20 that keeps going black screened during use. It usually stays black for about 2-3 minutes and then comes back on. It is becoming more frequent.

this is usualy caused by exessive dust on circuit boards ,if the screen goes black and the sound stays on this may be your problem, beware tvs hold charge even when unpluged so would advise taking to shop hope this helps andy

I finally wet out and bought the tv repair manual. Thought the problem had to be more than the bulb because i was losing sound too. Everything in hte repair manual brought me to the bulb or the ballast. I ordered a replacemant bulb. I spent about 150, which included overnight shipping. I replaced the bulb just before Thanksgiving and haven't had any problems as of yet....

Projection lamp shuting down

Confirm if this is happening during explosions screenshots or high white tones images. I noticed that my set goes black immediately after an explosion or during commercials (Essurance commercials for example). I'll have a technician tomorrow to replace the power board (another problem), but I'll also show him my observations to get his feedback about the blank screen...will let u know!!!
