Question about E-Machines H2824 PC Desktop

1 Answer

No power after external power failure

I have an eMachines H2824 tower that went out of warranty 2 months ago (conicidence??). Yesterday, possibly due to a severe power outage (the power came and went 3 times, with loud bans coming from a piece of equipment in the street outside, before staying off for several hours), the tower went dead. That is to say that it will no longer turn on at all. I checked in Troubleshooting in the accompanying booklet and it suggested that after an external power failure it is necessary to unplug the machine from the wall, wait 10 secs, and replug before pushing power button. This did not work either. Anyone able to suggest the variety of technical problems that may be involved here, and especially any bright ideas for attempting to restart the machine without having to take it to a techy? Thanks...

Re: No power after external power failure

The first thing I have to advise you is to change the Power supply unit. Before buying one change it with another one (probably from a friend's PC) and see if it is working. To remove the power supply unit, you need to remove your tower's case, and unscrew the power supply and remove it. the power supply is the metallic box on top of the computer at the back.

HP Pavilion a6602f suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason.

Hello there, I am the Expert that will be assisting you today. My name is Norman-Wynne Damstra.

Welcome to Fixya, Debdeb_64.

The power supply could be ok, this little green light that you see on the rear of the tower case is likely to be the Ethernet/Network connection.

Possible reasons for failure are as follows:
It could be a loose connection at the 24Pin or Processor 4Pin power connector.
A damaged power supply, is possible.
A faulty power on switch.
A dead mainboard.
A loose connection.

I have published a few guides that should help you in this regard, they are entitled:
How to Remove the Side Panels of My Computer Chassis!!!
How do I reset my BIOS/CMOS to defaults?
and most importantly My Computer is not turning on!!! Is it dead!!! No POST!!!

Do contact a computer technician to test components if need be.

Take care!

Hi Nicki,
Sorry, this really sounds bad, it would seem that the hard drive is shot from your description. The data may or may not be recoverable. If you get a new drive, you will have to partition it first, then set it as your Master drive, then set the old one as a slave, install your operating system onto the master drive and try to recover the information on the old drive after you have that done. If you cannot successfully recover the information that way, you most likely won't be able to get it at all unless you backed it up onto a flash or cds or dvds.
Sorry for the news but that is what it sounds like

I have a t3303. my external speakers suddenly stopped working. they work perfectly on my cd player and my headphones work perfectly in the headphone jack on hte tower?????

Check the settings for your speakers in the sound settings. It is possible that the settings have changed. It is also possible that the sound card has went bad in that port.

As the computer is only 2 months old, you should be able to contact Emachines and have
them send you a recovery disc out for the particular model. As the computer may seem identical, in most cases a recovery disc from your computer will not work because of a different
driver or some other small issue.

Try to take out the battery on the MoBo. It's a button battery that says CR2032. Let it sit for 2 minutes, put the battery back in and power it up.

I'd bet your power supply fried the MOBO. I've had two relatives Emachines do this. Both were purchased around the same time 4-5 years ago. It is a known issue caused by the Bestec Power Supply and Emachines will not help you. Assuming this is out of warranty, your options are to replace the MOBO and power supply or to buy a new PC.

Start up repair and recovery

Thank you for your response.
I finally did get it fixed yesterday with help from an Acer agent on the phone. I had to re-install the OS, and loose all my files, but none that I can't replace. The pop did sound electrical, but it hasn't done it since I've re-installed the OS. The computer is only around 8 months old, and I stild have a few months of the one year warranty left on it. Before it all happened I installed Windows Messenger Along with my Yahoo Messenger, and Was using a few registry cleaners, in which I may have accidentally deleted something in the registry. Anyhow, it is back to normal, and Im gonna be a little more careful with these registry cleaners, and as soon as I get the extra money, Im gonna get me an extra external drive.

Dead motherboard on emachines t2984

I hope that you took it back to them.
Have them check the power supply, too. Besides, a bad power switch and connections that would be the only thing that would be keep it from starting.
