Usually this error message means the computer doesn't "see" your hard drive. Remove the power cord then remove the side panel of the computer case. Check that the hard drive power cable and data cable are both plugged in firmly to the hard drive and to the motherboard. Plug the power cord back in and try booting up.

SOURCE: new emachine

The hard drive data cable or power cable may have come loose. But if there isn't some very obvious simple problem of a loose connection, I'd say take it back to the store for an exchange. If you really just bought it there should be no problem with an exchange, You'll probably be more comfortable with a replacement.

SOURCE: When I turn it on it says Reboot and select proper

Please verify if you don;t have a floppy disk in your drive. If you don't then you have to verify in BIOS if is selected proper boot device - HDD.
If everything is set then you have problem with your hard disk, must check and install new operating system.

How do i fix Reboot and Select proper Boot device?

The system is trying to boot from a designated device (like a usb drive, an iso file or a mounted drive) that doesn't have a boot partition on it.

Go go into the boot select order and change the setting to a bootable drive

Misty here is what I would do:
1.Start the computer in safe mode.
2. update drivers. I go into Slim Driver - a free prog. and scan the system to see if ok or need updates.
3. once updated, reboot the system normally - any change? GL

Power supply

power supplies must be compatible, is there any power that you can see or hear? could be your cpu fan has failed which would prevent boot. could be something worse like motherboard failure. you have not given enough info, what have you tried, is there any signs of anything working, noises, etc.

You might have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

The computer is trying to boot but it can't access the hard disc drive with the operating system on it to boot up. Make sure the hard disc drive is properly connect to the motherboard. If it is properly connected then it is possible your hdd has failed and needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled. Another thing you can try is determining the maker of your hard disc drive and download thier utility from their website to run on the hdd to try and repair it.

hope this helps

use the F8 button before windows starts. as the laptop show the manufacturer's screen. keep tapping it gently and fast until you get froted with the bootup options screen. Select whichever option reads the word "VGA" in it. Then it will boot into windows. Enter the multiple screen setup (could be hard given that screen could show all icons and windows big) and select proper settings. Restart the PC and ensure the options remain active.
