SOURCE: CRAFTSMAN SNOW THROWER DRIVE WHEELS WILL NOT MOVE

well if it is a walk behind style it could be the drive is out of adjustment, also craftsman were famous for the cable mounts bending and that will throw them out of adjustment. follow the traction drive linkage down to the base of the blowe and there should be an adjustment, or it will be under the belt gaurd or even on the handle on some.

Most self propelled units have 2 belts. One for the auger, and one to power the wheels. Check the belts, and then check the drive assembly under the motor to see if it is engaging.

Yardman snowblower won't self-propel

Do not start to do this but put the blower in gear like you would run to drive its self and try to turn the wheels by hand and if they turn easily then you may have a shear pin that is broken or missing in the drive pulley.
Just a thought.

Craftsman snow blower wheels wont move. Help!

If it is a 5.5 HP dual stage, like mine, it could be that the belt has popped off the friction pulley. If you drain the gas, tip the unit on its "face" and remove the large shield on the bottom you will see a 3" pulley attached to the drive shaft. There will also be what looks like a fan belt floating around in there. That fan belt nees to go on the pullet, as it serves as the friction disk tio drive the wheels. Good luck. this happens to mine ALL the time. very frustrating. :(

SNOW BLOWER FRICTION WHEEL WON'T DISENGAGE

Use a good quality silicon lube and spray into the top of the cable. Do this until it comes out the bottom, a little at a time. Also, spray all pivot points. Don't use WD-40, it will freeze. Lube everything at the end of winter and again before winter.

Snow Thrower does not self-propel

Did you check under the handle area, near the blower itself for a transmission lever? This will engage & disengage the transmission.
