Vox valvetronic amplifier static crackle

I recently purchased a second hand Vox VT50. t was fine for a few days and then started to crackle when certain notes were played. I replaced the tube as well as cleaning the jack inputs but the sound is still there on certain notes. This is using a new guitar and cable also. any thoughts or idesas?

Check the speaker for a loose dustcap or separated spider.

You will probably need to replace the large Electrolytic Capacitors in the power section. They can fail like that if left without power being applied for a long time.
If you see any other large ones (size wise) I would replace them too, just in case.
The big ones are prone to drying up more than the smaller ones you will see inside it.

SOURCE: Hi , I have an original 1967 Vox AC 30 Top Boost

Using the fifth fret tuning method may give you your answer. If you play the same exact note on an alternate string, see if the same sound happens. If so then its probably amp. If not, then its probably the pick ups.

Can I use my vox vt50 amp to play my bass guitar?

You can use it, just keep the volume low. The amp doesn't care what yu play through it, but the speaker isn't designed for loud bottom end.

Vox vt40 factory reset

Consider reading the Manual for this amp, it explains how to reset to factory with the VFS5 footpedal. Or with the power off ..hold down CH1 & CH4 then turn power on.. when the Bank & Channel leds start blinking.. then release the Channel buttons. Next press the Tap switch ... the bank & channel leds will change from blinking to lit. with in a few seconds it will enter preset mode.

I have a vox valvetronic 50, which keeps blowing fuses as soon as it is switched on and leaves a burning smell. any ideas?

One or more parts in the power supply section is defective. I would recommend taking/sending the unit to a repair depot.

We recently purchased the MS350 radios and are trying to use them handfree with the headsets. We plugged in the headsets, turned on the radios, but are unable to communicated back and forth using the VOX...

The three things which come to mind are:
1) Is the headset the VOX headset intended for the radio model? Sometimes the rings on the plug do not match the internal points of contact if it is not the intended headset. Not all headsets are VOX capable.
2) Is the headset plugged in all the way. (You mentioned plugging in and then turning on. This is good. You must always have the radio turned off when plugging or unplugging an audio device.)
3) Try pressing the PTT on the headset cord one time before switching the dip switch to VOX. (Assuming you have a headset with the small box in the line.)

Check your VOX/ iVOX settings. You will need VOX for using an audio device.

Lastly, if you continue to have difficulties, contact Motorola at the 800# provided in the user guide. They should be able to assist you.

Best regards.

I have a vt50 and it has an extremely loud buzz when I turn it on with nothing plugged in. It sounds like the speaker is going to blow. I don't know what's wrong.

Yes you could blow the speaker. There is either a problem in the power supply or possibly the power amp chip has shorted to one of the power rails. Some of the vox stuff uses th LM3886 chip as the power amp. While these are supposedly protected, they can go bad. Download A schematic that MIGHT be close to your unit... it is for the VT30 but probably is similar:

Scroll down to "Get Manual" and click on it to download the schematic. Do this test: Adjust the power level control. IF it doesn't vary the level significantly, then check the voltage across the speaker... IF it isn't less than 1 volt DC (bias) replace the LM3886 chip. Use thermal grease and any insulators they are using. Chip about $8 from Note these come with two different pre-bent leads... make sure to get right ones. IF the output bias is with 1 volt DC of ground, check for bad filter caps and rectifiers.

Tape stops

There is a switch on the right-hand side of the machine labelled 'VOX'. Set this switch to the 'OFF' position and you should be good to go.

'VOX' is voice-activated recording. It's designed to record only when someone is talking, and to pause when nothing is being said. In theory it's a great feature, but it never really works as good as you'd like. It'll usually miss the first few words you say, or it'll cut in & out while you're talking.

You can also set the 'VOX' sensitivity by adjusting the 'Tone/VOX' slider on the front of the machine.

Hope this helps...

JL 500/1 power problem.

There should be a small switch someware on the amp marked VOX or normal. I bet its on vox. if there is no switch then theres a jumper inside the unit to put it into a vox state. Vox Is when audio is at the input the amp goes on and when theres no voltage at the input the amp switches off.
