Question about JBL Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

JBL MEDSYS 2000

I lost the original "remote level" cord which looks like a 6 contact phone cord and it connects subwoofer unit to the preamp control knobs on one of the satellite speakers. So, I tried a 6 line phone cord which fits perfectly, but, does not work to carry the preamp signal to adjust vol., bass & treble controls. Does JBL have a special cord that can be ordered?

SOURCE: speaker/sub bass

If you dare to open up the case, squirt some contact cleaner into the internals of the variable resistor. If none of this makes sense, youre better off taking it to a repair shop.

SOURCE: sliced control cord

Not quite sure how many cores you sliced then soldered. Did you repair a figure-of-eight (two co-axial cables stuck together) or was it two inner wires with a braid over both (round)? Can you give more info or a picture? Just want to help. Regards

I have the same problem, from what I've read, we need to buy a complete replacement of the wired remote. I still can't find anything, but I'm about to call logitech and see what they say.

Why does my HTS-20 powered subwoofer make a low hum when plugged in, even turned off and not connected to the receiver and a louder hum when the subwoofer power is turned on?

I suspect the amplifier is damaged. This is not an easy repair to do unless you are well versed in audio electronics. I would recommend a repair shop to look at the subwoofer amplifier.

What size preamp equalizer do i need for a 2000 watt amplifier for car subwoofers?

There is nada wrong with your preamp and changing it will accomplish nothing. If your channels are allegedly clipping it is due to the fact that it is being over driven. A bad preamp could not over drive your amp!
Have to be careful with tone controls at high levels. Every 3db increase compels amp to double power at that frequency. So if you are blasting at 2000 watts and you boost a control by that amount, your amp will put out 4000 watts and clip. If plus 6db then it is 8000 watts!

Need schematic diagram infinity basslink subwoofer

Design: The BassLink brings together a 10" subwoofer (treated paper cone, foam surround), a 10" passive radiator (to increase efficiency and limit distortion), and an extremely efficient, specially designed 200-watt Class D amplifier that work as an integrated system. Special circuitry monitors voice coil position to maintain linearity at high power levels, so you hear loud, clear bass.

Enclosure Type and Materials: The enclosure is made of an acoustically inert polymer which is rigid enough to resist flexing and dampens any resonance.

Servo-Control: The servo-control system continually monitors the performance of the speaker and ensures that the amplifier delivers exactly the right amount of power.

Class D Amplifier: This unit has a built-in 200 watt Class D amplifier which is highly efficient and designed specifically for use with the subwoofer and passive radiator combination.

Auto Turn-On Feature: When the speaker level inputs are used, the system will automatically turn on and off with the radio. Note: The auto turn-on feature does not operate when the preamp level inputs are used, unless the remote turn-on lead is connected.

Low-Pass Crossover: The low-pass crossover frequency can be varied from 50Hz to 120Hz for a seamless transition between the output of this unit and that of the other speakers in the vehicle. The crossover has a slope of 12dB per octave.

Bass Boost: The amplifier includes a continuously adjustable bass boost from -6 to +3dB centered at 40Hz.

Phase Switch: Allows you to select normal or reverse for best bass.

Mounting: You will be able to put BassLink in a variety of in-vehicle locations, thanks to its compact size and mounting feet that enable the rigid polymer box to be mounted vertically or horizontally.

Vertical Mounting Dimensions:
Width: 14.625"
Height: 13.375" (including feet)
Depth: 8.675" (10.076" including feet)
Horizontal Mounting Dimensions:
Width: 14.625"
Height: 9.5" (including feet)
Depth: 12.75" (15.1875" including feet)

BassLink LC Remote Level Control

Overview: The BassLink LC allows you to adjust the volume of BassLink powered subwoofer.

Installation: The BassLink LC may be mounted under the dash or may be dismantled and mounted inside the dash for a factory appearance.

Under-dash Mounting: Select a mounting location that allows easy, safe access to the control while driving. The BassLink LC has mounting "ears" to use as a template for drilling pilot holes. Attach screws through the "ears" to secure the BassLink LC to the mounting surface.
In-dash Mounting: Disassemble the BassLink LC by removing the Phillips-head screws on the front, rear, and top panels. Remove the bottom and side panels and disengage the RJ11 connector from the back panel. Choose a mounting location that allows easy, safe access to the control, and provides 1-3/4" clearance behind the mounting surface. Drill a 9/32" hole in the mounting surface. Feed the BassLink LC's potentiometer (with the knob removed) through the hold and use the nut provided to hold the control in place.
Connecting to BassLink: Route the cable behind the dash or other interior panels and under the carpet. Do not route the cable outside the vehicle. Connect the cable on both ends.

Inputs and Controls

Inputs:

Universal Interface: Front and rear, left and right Universal interface speaker-level inputs (for use with the supplied speaker-level input wiring harnesses)
Line Level RCA Inputs: Front and rear, left and right female preamp level inputs
+BATT (+12V): Gold-plated screw terminal, 0.350" wide
REM (remote turn-on): Gold-plated screw terminal, 0.350" wide
GND (ground): Gold-plated screw terminal, 0.350" wide
Fuse: There is an installed 20 Amp fuse
Remote Gain Control: Phone type jack for included remote gain control

Controls:

Gain Control: Rotary control that sets gain (variable from 250mV to 4V)
Crossover Control: Rotary control that sets the low-pass crossover point (variable from 50 to 120Hz)
Bass Boost Control: Rotary control that sets bass boost level (variable from -6 to +3dB, centered at 40Hz)
Phase Switch: Selects normal or reverse phase (0 or 180 degrees)
Power LED: The power LED glows red when the BassLink is on
Servo LED: The Servo LED glows green when the servo circuit has determined that the woofer has reached maximum excursion and power to the woofer has been modified to provide maximum performance. The LED should light momentarily during high-level bass transients. Note: Avoid adjustments that cause the LED to remain lit for an extended period of time

Thanks

Ok i just got the sub from a sony sswg450 i want to know is there some way to hook it up to my Pioneer home Receiver

Did you get a manual with it? According to the Sony site this speaker originates in Sony MHC-GX450.

"This product bundle includes the following models:
HCD-GX450 - STEREO MINI SYSTEM
RM-SC3 - REMOTE CONTROL for Shelf Mini Systems
SSRG444 - FRONT SPEAKER FOR MHCGX450
SS-WG450 - SUBWOOFER FOR MHCGX450"

Find the manual here and learn a bit about your seprated sub...

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=MHCGX450

See page 7.

As can be seen, the subwoofer has two connections to the mothership, very unlike the standard speaker level (+/-) speaker wire or RCA-Line-Level subwoofer out that 'normal passive or active subwoofers use, respectively.

Not knowing which of those your unspecified Pioneer receiver supports, it is impossible to say. Does your Pioneer have that control jack?

Mini-systems are generally not designed to be pieced out and used with grown-up gear. The absence of standardized connections is the clue.

What volume level should I set the sub at please. I have a Marantz 7005 av amp and when using Audyssey to set up, the slam from the sub is miniscule. I normally set it a 50% volume when setting up,can...

It might be easier to "skip" the subwoofer meausrement step in Audessy and tune it by ear instead. Refer to page 52 in the manual, step 6/7.

I use familiar music and test tones when I tune my sub to the mains. Generally, I set the preamp trim to -10db, the crossover as appropriate (80 or below), and then bring up the level knob on the sub to taste. Confirm phase alignment, if possible, by having someone flip the phase (if available) so the response is strongest at the main listening position.

Keep it a little "lean" at first, and over the next several hours or days, bring the preamp level up one db at a time. It takes several days of tweaking to arrive at a level that I find appropriate. Once there, I try to ignore programs with bloated bass - remember, not all recordings are created equal.

Should you fond yourself bringing the preamp level to 0 or above, kick the sub amp level knob up a couple of clicks, and back off the preamp level. It's safer to have the amp do the work, than driving too hot of a signal at the preamp level and clipping it.

TOA 903A Lack of volume when unit is powered on. After master volume is rapidly twisted from 0 to 100%, speakers krackel and music slowly comes back to an acceptable level. Have sprayed a contact cleaner...

If the volume control does not appear to be defective, I would next check the speaker relay. If the contacts there are corroded, the symptoms will be as you describe. The higher voluime level will allow the initial "connection" to occur with the unit working almost normally after that. Replace the relay with a new one. You should be able to get one from TOA.
