Can the ARRIS NVG 589 originally for ATT Uverse be used as a DOCSIS 3 Modem for Comcast internet & Phone?

If it has a coax connector in back (given ATT usually is DSL,) then it may be able to. You will need to get the MAC address from it and provide it to support so they authorize it to be on their system.

This is Comcast Xfinity's supported list:

XFINITY Users - How To DISABLE Public Access

Are you currently a Comcast / XFINITY subscriber? Read On!

If you're currently subscribed to the Cable company, Comcast - You may be running the risk of allowing the public to access your Home Network! This was their method on how to add millions of Hot Spots throughout the U.S.

You can find out if you are sharing a Public Network by taking your smartphone and checking for local Wi-Fi signals. Stand next to your Router/Modem during this time and if you have solid bars then most likely you've got Public Access.

While this may initially appear to be a good thing - it can lead to serious issues and possible Federal Prosecution. If you do not secure your Network YOU are liable for the traffic which flows through - do not be another statistic when it comes to a wrongful arrest!

XFinity allows ANYONE with a smart device to connect to YOUR Network for one complimentary hour, or permanently if they have a Comcast login. Not fun, right? So let's get that fixed!

Initially you were able to go into the Router/Modem itself and manually disable the Public Access / Xfinity Hot Spot. Now things are a bit more complicated:

First Go To: https://customer.xfinity.com/#/settings/security/hotspot.
Second: Sign into your XFINITY Account with your User/Pass
Third: Navigate to your Public Hotspot tab - click Turn Off.

This will disable the public access, but you'll still retain connectivity to your PRIVATE Network. No more worrying about Pirates on your Network :)

My landline is hook up to ciso an thats hook up to netgear how do i make calls out

If it's a cable modem you should have your phone landline connected to the cable model, if you have a "bundle". TV, Broadband, Phone with your provider. For example: I have Comcast/Xfinity bundle, TV, Phone, High Speed Internet. At the Comcast Modem it has a Phone jack RJ-11 for landline and Fax and a RJ-45 for my Wireless Access Point and Ethernet cable.

Why does my cable box constantly freeze up when I am watching television shows?

In todays cable industry clean RF is a must. However that issue can be lose fittings at the wall or set top box or most especially at the modem. A modem constantly chatters back to the server even when your not using it. A lose fitting there can cause you and the whole neighborhood issues. Try that tighten all your cable fittings all around your house if that doesnt fix it the issue could be a bad box or not even at your home. The other issue often is squirrels chewing on the drop lines at the pole.
